Richard "RJ" Adelman, 44, the son of former Timberwolves head coach Rick Adelman, died last Friday when he was hit by a van while crossing the street in Houston, Texas. 

News of his death wasn't announced until it was reported by TMZ on Thursday. 

Rick Adelman coached the Wolves from 2011-2014, with RJ by his side as an assistant coach on the team.

Police told Click2Houston.com that Adelman was not in a crosswalk when he was struck. 

The Adelmans' former franchise player in Minnesota, Kevin Love, issued his condolences on Twitter. 

Love's reaction was one of many.
