Sports clip o' the day: Pirates' McCutchen proposes on 'Ellen'


We here at the BringMeTheNews sports desk aren't exactly the sentimental types, and we've had our fill of marriage proposals in the stands at sporting events.

But it's hard not to get a little gooey over this clip. On Wednesday, Pirates outfielder and reigning National League MVP Andrew McCutchen dropped by the "Ellen" show, according to the Sporting News and other outlets.

Hey, the whole thing was pretty staged, but the girlfriend and bride-to-be, Maria Hansloven, seemed genuinely surprised in the audience. As USA Today notes, the show aired a video of McCutchen expressing his love and inspiration for Hansloven, the dapper dude dropped to one knee and did the deal. She said yes.
