St. Cloud State is 7-0-0 on the season.

There's a new No. 1 team in college hockey.

The undefeated St. Cloud State Huskies received the top ranking in the nation from USCHO.com on Monday, after their sweep of the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs over the weekend.

SCSU is 7-0-0 on the season and is firing on all cylinders. It's the first time since 2001-02 that St. Cloud has started its season with seven consecutive wins.

The Huskies offense is averaging nearly five goals per game while getting stellar defensive play on the back end. Goaltenders Jeff Smith and David Hrenak have split time between the pipes and both have put up solid numbers.

Even the special teams have been phenomenal, as St. Cloud is converting 32 percent of their power-play opportunities, while their penalty kill has surrendered just three goals in 25 attempts this season.

St. Cloud is coached by Bob Motzko, who's in his 13th season as the bench of the Huskies.

Other MN teams cracking the list

Three other Minnesota-based schools cracked USCHO's poll too.

  • No. 4 University of Minnesota
  • No. 10 Minnesota State Mankato
  • No. 12 University of Minnesota Duluth

The Gophers are coming off a sweep of Michigan State, while Minnesota State took a split with Northern Michigan.
