St. Thomas falls to UW-Whitewater 20-0

St. Thomas' run at the NCAA Division III title ends against the top-ranked Warhawks. The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater will play for their third-straight national title.

The Tommies end their season (13-1) after facing a perennial powerhouse in Wisconsin-Whitewater.

St.Thomas never got on a roll against the Warhawks, who have won 44-straight games.

So much is made of parity in college athletics, but the Division III playoffs have lacked it for some time. For the seventh-straight year Wisconsin-Whitewater will meet Mount Union in the championship game.

The Warhawks have won the previous two meetings.

St. Scholastica rallied to win a 15th straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference title Friday afternoon by defeating Northwestern College 9-5 at Wade Stadium. The Saints (33-9) also clinched an eighth straight berth in the NCAA Division III tournament, with pairings to be announced Sunday.

Wild blanked again, fall to Avalanche 2-0

Make it six straight periods without a goal for the Minnesota Wild, as they were shutout by the Colorado Avalanche 2-0 Sunday at the Xcel Energy Center. It's the third time in four games the Wild has failed to score a goal.

Wayne State upsets No. 1 UMD, 7-0

A major upset as Wayne State beat out Division II top-ranked University of Minnesota Duluth, 7-0. Before this -- the Bulldogs had never lost to Wayne State in their 10 previous match-ups.

St Thomas tops in MIAC preseason poll

The Division 3 squad that hasn't lost a regular season game in two full years is, not surprisingly, on top of their conference's preseason poll. The national semi-finalist is ranked eighth nationally and is looking for an even deeper run in to the playoffs this season.
