Wayzata pulls off 3-seed upset over rival Eden Prairie, 5-3

The 2A evening game proved to a real barn burner in St. Paul, as Wayzata pulled ahead with four unanswered goals to secure their championship title over the Eden Prairie Eagles.

After the Trojans scored during the early minutes, the game appeared one-sided, with the Eagles going on a three-goal tear, decisively controlling the momentum for the back half of the 1st and the start of the second period.

Wayzata came storming back after a shorthanded goal from Billy Duma, knotting up the score at the end of the second before two unassisted goals from Logan Lindstrand and Colin Schmidt sealed the deal.

It was Wayzata's first-ever state championship title, the Pioneer Press reports.

Top-seeded Hermantown shuts out rival Breck, 5-0

After six years as the state tournament runner-up, the Hermantown Hawks finally brought home another 1A trophy with a resounding 5-0 win over the Breck Mustangs.

The Hawks went up early with three goals in the first period and never let go, scoring an efficient 5 goals on just 18 shot attempts. Hermantown goalie Luke Olson tallied 23 saves in the shutout victory.
