Visitors to the Twin Cities for the Super Bowl can expect a frosty welcome – and not just from Vikings fans.

An early look at the long-range forecast from CIPS Analog Guidance shows that temperatures are expected to be below average for the period of Feb. 1-4.

Tens of thousands of Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots fans are expected in town for Super Bowl LII, so they'll be needing their heavy coats.

CIPS says that temperatures are trending downward, to the point where it could be 6-10 degrees below normal in Minnesota on Super Bowl weekend.

The average high in Minneapolis on Feb. 4 is 25.8 degrees and the low is 9.2, according to US Climate Data, so that could mean temperatures highs around 15 and lows of 0 on the day itself.

It'll mean a bracing time for anyone enjoying the Super Bowl festivities outdoors on Nicollet Mall or in and around the stadium, but those fortunate enough to have tickets to the game itself won't have to worry thanks to the climate-controlled U.S. Bank Stadium.
