Boys' basketball: Apple Valley, DeLaSalle, Minnehaha, SW Minn. Christian all win titles


Apple Valley wound up the 2013 boys' basketball state championship tournament Saturday with a win over Park Center, 74-57 to capture the 4A title, The Associated Press reports.

All four championship games were at Target Center in Minneapolis.

The win game Apple Valley its first state boys' hoops title.

The highly recruited Tyus Jones scored 28 points and and had 11 rebounds for Apple Valley.

DeLaSalle won its second consecutive 3A boys' basketball state championship Saturday with a 50-33 victory over Austin, according to the Star Tribune.

DeLaSalle used ball control to defeat Austin, which came into the game with a 30-0 record. The team outscored Austin 28-17 in the first half, and 22-16 in the second.

Top-seeded Minnehaha Academy edged second-seed Litchfield 56-54 to take the Class 2A title, The Associated Press reports.

The win gave Minnehaha Academy its first championship in four boys' basketball state tournament appearances.

Earlier in the day, Southwest Minnesota Christian stunned No. 1 ranked Maranatha Christian Academy 81-73 to win the Class 1A title, the Star Tribune reports.

Southwest Minnesota Christian was ranked No. 3 going into the tournament.

It was the school's fifth 1A title, behind four consecutive championships from 1999 to 2002.

Girls' basketball tournament: Hopkins, DeLaSalle, Maranatha Christian Academy defend titles; Providence Academy also wins

Hopkins defended its title against Osseo in the the Class AAAA championship game. In Class AAA, DeLaSalle powered past Richfield for its second state title. Maranatha Christian Academy won its second straight Class A title and Providence Academy took the Class AA championship at the State Girls' Basketball Tournament.

Boys' Basketball Tournament: BBE remains perfect to win 1A; Plainview-Elgin-Millville wins 2A; DeLaSalle, Osseo win thrillers in 3A, 4A

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa topped Southwest Minnesota Christian 54-45 to win the 1A championship -- and remain perfect for the season. In Class 2A Plainview-Elgin-Millville defeated Litchfield 55-39. In the 3A championship game, DeLaSalle hit a last-second two-pointer to squeak by Minneapolis Washburn 57-56. The 4A championship was also a buzzer-beater finish -- Osseo held on to beat Lakeville North 49-47.
