Minnesota's Special Olympians have returned home from the USA Games with more than 100 medals to their credit, FOX 9 reports.

The games ran June 14-21 in New Jersey.

According to Special Olympics Minnesota President Dave Dorn, 30 local athletes returned from the USA Games with medals.

“My favorite memory is competing, myself with the team," golfer Katie Timmer told FOX 9. Timmer took home a gold medal from the games.

Team Minnesota’s flag football team was also selected to take down the USA flag for exhibiting exemplary sportsmanship.

More than 3,500 athletes competed in 16 different sports, including baseball, basketball, gymnastics, powerlifting, softball, tennis and volleyball, the Huffington Post says. The games reportedly attracted more than 70,000 spectators.

Newsday says among the celebrities cheering on athletes at this year's games was Jane Lynch, star of the hit show "Glee." Lynch plays Sue Sylvester, who encourages a girl with Down syndrome (Lauren Potter) to be on the cheerleader squad.
