Europe narrows U.S. lead at Ryder Cup

The Ryder Cup teed off at Hazeltine National Golf Club Friday with Team USA looking dominant in the morning.

Not so much in the afternoon, though.

Still, the day ended with the home team ahead of the visitors from Europe 5-3.

Here are results from the U.S. sweep of the morning matches:

  • Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed over Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose.
  • Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar over Lee Westwood and Thomas Pieters.
  • Jimmy Walker and Zach Johnson over Sergio Garcia and Martin Kaymer.
  • Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler over Rory McIlroy and Andy Sullivan.

The afternoon foursomes broke down this way:

  • Justin Rose/Henrik Stenson (Europe) over Patrick Reed/Jordan Spieth 5&4
  • Sergio Garcia/Rafa Cabrera Bello (Europe) over J.B. Holmes/Ryan Moore 3&2
  • Brandt Snedeker/Brooks Koepka (USA) over Martin Kaymer/Danny Willett 5&4
  • Rory McIlroy/Thomas Pieters (Europe) over Dustin Johnson/Matt Kuchar 3&2

And the crowd goes wild! Fowler/Mickelson go 1 up through 9. #GoUSA
