The wheels have completely fallen off for Twins pitchers

It's not good right now, but it's not like this hasn't happened before.

It's been exactly two weeks since we wrote a story with the headline: 'Twins pitching staff is living up to the hype."

Boy, have things changed.

After losing 14-1 to the Yankees on Monday and 8-3 on Tuesday, the Twins have now allowed an absurd 48 runs in their last five games.

They only gave up 44 runs in 13 games to start the season, so Jekyl has officially been introduced to Hyde for the first time this season.

But don't panic. This is baseball. Jekyl and Hyde are going to cross paths many times in 2018, just like they did when the Twins surprised everyone and made the playoffs last season.

Remember when the Houston Astros visited Target Field last May and routed the Twins with an incredible 40 runs in three games?

Minnesota climbed out of that stink hole just like they'll climb out of this stink hole. Probably.

"You look for ways to improve and try to get back on track," Twins manager Paul Molitor said Tuesday night. "There's no magic in this game. You talk about the peaks and valleys you have to endure. We've been tested here early, but we just have to find a way to respond. You just know when you're going through these things. You can feel it, and you have to try to find a way to turn it around."

Pitching is contagious, and right now Twins pitchers are suffering from severe cases of whiplash as a result of turning their heads in a violent motion to watch mammoth home runs.

  • Have opponents increased their batting average against Twins pitchers by 50 points in just two weeks? Yes.
  • Has the team's 3.11 ERA skyrocketed to 4.84? Yes.
  • Just two quality starts in their last nine games? Yes.
  • Served up 14 homers in their last four games? Yes.

But you know what, it's going to be ok.

Trouble is, the way the Red Sox and Indians are going the Twins and Yankees might have to make the playoffs via the wild cards again, and that would mean another date against New York in the postseason.
