Adrian Peterson is unique on the football field. A rare blend of size, speed, power, and relentlessness found only in the best.
But getting to where he is wasn't easy, something he was once again reminded of these past few days, with a 2-year-old boy alleged to be Peterson's son in critical condition and unresponsive in a Sioux Falls hospital.
Here's a look back at the tough times for Peterson.
AGE 7: While riding his bicycle, Peterson's brother Brian, 9, is killed by a drunk driver in front of Peterson's eyes.
AGE 13: AP's father and coach Nelson, who told the Pioneer Press' Sean Jensen today that the 2-year old child in the Sioux Falls hospital is indeed Adrian's son, is sentenced to 10 years in prison for laundering money in a cocaine ring.
AGE 19: The night before Peterson is scheduled to run his ever-important 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, his half brother Chris Paris is gunned down in Houston. Peterson would say he felt as close to Paris as he did to his biological brother that was killed when he was seven.
AGE 27: Peterson is taken into custody by Houston police on resisting arrest charges after allegedly making physical contact with security and police officers. He was later cleared of the charges.
AGE 28: Peterson rushes to South Dakota to deal with a personal matter. Peterson does not confirm any information on the issue, simply stating that he would like his privacy respected. Multiple reports state a boy reported to be Peterson's son is unresponsive, and will be taken off life support tonight.
Peterson's reaction to this adversity? Prayer, sports, and teammates.
He is already receiving a huge outpouring of support from those in the sports community, including former Twin Torii Hunter.
