The outcome of Saturday night's high school hockey game between No. 1 seed Eden Prairie and No. 4 seed Benilde-St. Margaret's in the Section 6AA Semifinals was overshadowed by a fight on the ice.

KSTP reports that Eden Prairie was leading 1-0 when the brawl broke out at the final horn. What began with pushing and shoving quickly developed into a handful of confrontations, with several punches were thrown. Once tempers calmed, players for both teams lined up at center ice for the traditional postgame handshake line

Now Eden Prairie's Riley Argetsinger, Louie Roehl and Marc Sullivan will miss their team's Section Final against No. 2 seed Minnetonka on Wednesday because they are suspended due to the skirmish.

WCCO noted that the fight between the Eagles and the Red Knights was captured on video by several fans.

Deadspin, which just a week ago put up a post about the fight over Minnesota's High Kick Dance competition, has weighed in on the hockey incident.

The Star Tribune noted that just two nights earlier, another game-ending fight between Bloomington Jefferson and Holy Angels in a Class 2A, Section 2 quarterfinal did not result in penalties or game disqualifications.

Game officials spent more than an hour conferring on what penalties to assign to which players. A combined 18 penalties were assessed to eight players (four on each team).

After tempers calmed, players from both teams lined up at center ice for the traditional postgame handshake line.

The state boys' hockey tournament begins March 4 at the Xcel Energy Center.
