The Gophers men's hockey team is No. 1in the nation in more than the polls. Nick Bjugstad leads the WCHA with 21 goals -- good for second best in the country. Meanwhile, Kyle Rau leads all freshman in scoring, and goaltender Kent Patterson leads the nation in minutes.

Gophers' Patterson, Bjugstad named second-team All-Americans

Goaltender Kent Patterson and forward Nick Bjugstad were named second-team All-Americans on Friday. Patterson, a senior, started every game for the Gophers this season. Bjugstad, a sophomore, finished second on the team with 42 points.

Patterson and Rau named WCHA players of the week

For the third time this season Kent Patterson has been named WCHA defensive player of the week. The senior Gophers' goalie allowed one goal in a weekend sweep of Bemidji State. The WCHA rookie of the week award was given to Gophers' forward Kyle Rau. It's the second time he's won the award.

Bjugstad's hat trick helps U.S. crush Latvia, 12-2 at World Juniors

Gophers' forward Nick Bjugstad had a hat trick and two assists to help lead Team USA over Latvia in the relegation round of the World Junior Championships. Kyle Rau also scored in the blowout. The U.S. plays in the seventh place game against Switzerland on Wednesday.

UMD's Connolly is WCHA Player of the Year, Bjugstad & Patterson on first team

Minnesota-Duluth captain Jack Connolly was named WCHA Player of the Year Thursday. He received 48 of 96 first place votes. Gophers' forward Nick Bjugstad and goalie Kent Patterson were named to the All-WCHA First Team.
