Tim Lincecum's pitching showcase Thursday in Washington turned out to be quite a bit more impressive than most expected.

According to MLB.com, Lincecum threw 25 pitches and he was clocked as high as 93 mph, which is about 5 mph faster than he was throwing as a member of the Los Angeles Angels in 2016. He also didn't show any signs of battling a hip injury that slowed him in recent seasons.

Lincecum won a pair of Cy Young awards in 2008 and '09 when he had a mid-90s fastball to go along with his knee-buckling curve.

The Twins were expected to have a scout at the showcase, and if they did, they were among 15-20 teams that showed up to see Lincecum pitch, according to the report.

It's unclear if Lincecum's future in the majors is as a starter or reliever, but FanRagSports' Jon Heyman says a reliever role could be perfect for Lincecum, who made seven of his 13 career playoff appearances out of the bullpen.

Meanwhile, the Twins have been linked to Rays ace Chris Archer, but as Heyman points out, they might not be willing to trade the top prospects necessary to get a deal done.
