The high school football season is almost over. Next week Prep Bowl XXX will be the highlight of many high school students careers. Check out how each team advanced below.
9-Man: Edgerton/Ellsworth 48, Ada-Borup 20
The No. 1 ranked Flying Dutchmen showcased their high-powered offense with a 24-point second quarter. They led 32-6 at the half and never looked back. They'll face the winner of tomorrow's semifinal game between Kittson County Central and Wheaton/Herman Norcross.
Class 1A: Mahnomen 32, Sleepy Eye St. Mary's 12
A dominant rushing attack fueled the second ranked Indians to a 20-point win over the Knights. Mahnomen piled up 333-yards on the ground. A win next week in the Prep Bowl would be the seventh in school history.
Class 2A: Moose Lake-Willow River 35, Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 14
MLWR climbed on the back of Jake Disterhaup. The senior tailback punished W-E-M by rushing for 244-yards and four touchdowns. He set the tone on his first carry, going 80-yards for a touchdown.
Class 3A: Fairmont 21, Annandale 9
Fairmont intercepted four passes and returned two of them for touchdowns en route to a defensive victory over Annandale. The game featured eleven combined turnovers. Fairmonts awaits the winner of tomorrow's semifinal between St. Croix Lutheran and Providence Academy.
Class 4A: Bemidji 45, Mankato West 26
The Scarlets, led by Gopher recruit Philip Nelson, jumped on top of the Lumberjacks 14-0 within the first three minutes of the game, but failed to keep momentum. Bemidji's Carey Woods then took over the game with three long touchdowns (92, 61, and 67 yards) on his way to 258 total yards.
Class 5A: Eden Prairie 49, Totino-Grace 7
Eden Prairie showcased their dominance through senior running back Andrew Larson. Larson rushed for four touchdowns in the first half as the Eagles had no trouble advancing to the Prep Bowl.
Saturday schedule at Metrodome:
9-Man: Wheaton/Herman Norcross 62, Kittson County Central 22
Wolfgang Brink led Wheaton/Herman Norcross with six rushing touchdowns...and they all came before the start of the fourth quarter.
Class 1A: Dawson-Boyd 50, Blooming Prairie 27
Blackjacks quarterback Joey Lee threw for 240-yards and four touchdowns to lead Dawson-Boyd to the Prep Bowl. This is the school's first trip to the state tournament, and they are one win away from making it a memorable one.
Class 2A: Caledonia 37, Warroad 0
Warroad isn't used to being shutout, but their offense couldn't put any points on the scoreboard. Caledonia is back in the Prep Bowl for the fourth time in five years.
Class 3A: St. Croix Lutheran 58, Providence Academy 29
The No. 1 team in 3A scored 30-points in the first quarter and never looked back.
Class 4A: Rocori 37, Hill-Murray 35
At the beginning of the season nobody thought Rocori would be playing Bemidji in the Prep Bowl. Well, it's true. Rocori held off a late rally by Hill-Murray to advance to the championship game.
Class 5A: Wayzata 42, Cretin-Derham Hall 0
Yes, the score above is correct. The Trojans dominant defense had no trouble slowing down one of the state's most respected offenses. This sets up a terrific Prep Bowl re-match against Eden Prairie.
