Minnesota is the State of Hockey. Nobody else in the U.S. seems to match our enthusiasm for the sport.
Except for this 2-year-old Penguins fan, caught on camera celebrating a Sidney Crosby goal at one of the team's games this season. A Reddit user posted the GIF online, calling it "Happiest Penguins fan ever."
Maybe we should try to adopt him. Or give him an honorary key to the city. He needs something from us, because he clearly loves the sport as much as anyone here.
The young boy's reaction has become the image of the Penguins' slogan, "Buckle Up Baby," shouted by announcer Phil Bourque last year. There's even a hashtag now, #BuckleUpBaby, and the young boy is being called The Buckle Up Baby.
WTAE in Pittsburgh spoke with the boy's family. His name is Tyler Avolia, and his mother Hilary Avolia tells the station he's obsessed with hockey. He's been to four games this year, WTAE reports, and will get to go to a fifth – the team provided him tickets for Saturday's playoff game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Young Ty is a hockey fan, through and through.
It's perfect. He can hang out with this young Wild fan, who got all giggly and couldn't contain his excitement when Charlie Coyle waved to him.
"For Easter we got him baseball stuff," Hilary Avolia tells WTAE. "No. He's still just interested in hockey. Everything goes back to hockey."
What's more Minnesotan than that?
