Alex Kirilloff is still years away from the big leagues, but his impact at the Major League level with the Twins is probably delayed even longer now that he needs Tommy John surgery.
According to Twins Daily, general manager Thad Levine announced that the former first-round pick – 15th overall last year – will undergo the operation to repair his elbow next week.
The surgery puts an end to Kirilloff's 2017 season.
Kirilloff hit .306 with 7 homers and 33 RBI in 55 games at Elizabethton rookie league last summer.
Ironically, it was three years ago to the day that the Twins announced Miguel Sano needed season-ending Tommy John surgery, according to Aaron Gleeman.
