Game 1: Twins blanked by Nationals, 7-0

The Twins were handcuffed by Washington Nationals pitcher Jordan Zimmerman, managing just two hits in seven innings against the righthander from Wisconsin.

Meanwhile, Minnesota starter Scott Diamond allowed all seven of Washington's runs -- five of them in the fifth inning.

The big inning was a breakthrough for the Nationals, who had been held to three or fewer runs in their previous seven games.

As for Diamond, his hopes for a second straight strong outing were dashed, the Star Tribune notes. Diamond pitched six shutout innings a week ago. But the seven runs allowed are a career high for him. It was also the third time in his last five games that Diamond failed to finish five innings.

Chris Parmelee had both of the hits off Zimmerman. Aaron Hicks also singled for the Twins.

Here's the box score.
