The Minnesota Twins have severed ties with general manager Bill Smith, with Terry Ryan stepping in as interim general manager, effective immediately. The Twins cited "philosophical differences" as the reason for the move. Ryan says he's more than happy to "try to get the job done."

General manager Terry Ryan expects P.J. Walters to give the Twins a chance against the Blue Jays on Saturday. The 27 year old will make his first major league start since 2010. At Triple-A Rochester Walters was 3-1 with a 2.70 ERA. He says he'll try to pitch the way he has with the Red Wings.

Ryan on Slowey: 'We consider him a starter'

Kevin Slowey wants to be a starter in 2012, and if he stays in Minnesota he will likely get his way. Twins general manager Terry Ryan says the team considers Slowey a starter. The righthander is arbitration eligible, meaning the Twins have until December 12 to offer him a contract or he becomes a free agent.
