Minnesota Twins' pitcher Kyle Gibson lasted just two innings in the shortest start of his career, and he wasn't helped by the Twins' defense in a six-run second inning as they lost 9-3 to the Detroit Tigers on Saturday afternoon at Comerica Park.

Miguel Cabrera hit a three-run home run in the second, according to the Star Tribune. A throwing error by Brian Dozier with two outs in the inning set the stage for Cabrera’s homer.

In those two innings, Gibson gave up six runs on seven hits and one walk with one strikeout.

The Twins cut the lead in half in the third inning, when Dozier made up for his error with a three-run homer, according to the Star Tribune.

Right-hander Anthony Swarzak pitched four scoreless innings in relief of Gibson. Right-hander Michael Tonkin came in for the seventh and surrendered a three-run homer to Detroit's Victor Martinez to put the game out of reach for the Twins.

Joe Mauer returned to the lineup as the designated hitter after missing five games with back spasms. Mauer walked and singled in four trips to the plate, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Minnesota beat Detroit 2-1 Friday night. The two teams wind up their series with the rubber game Sunday afternoon.
