Twins offense struggles, Rangers out duel Gibson

Author:

The Twins lost a pitchers duel to Texas on Wednesday night, falling to the Texas Rangers 1-0 at Target Field.

It was the third time the Twins were shutout this season and the second time they lost a one-run game at home.

Kyle Gibson pitched six scoreless innings for the Twins to start the game. Texas' Joe Saunders matched Gibson though, he threw five scoreless innings and struck out six.

Jared Burton came on in the seventh and gave up the first run of the game. Burton was tagged with the loss.

Texas' Luis Sardinas broke the scoreless tie in the seventh, when he had a two-out single that drove in Leonys Martin to put the Rangers on top.

That allowed Rangers reliever Shawn Tolleson to pick up the victory. Joakim Soria bounced back, after blowing the save Tuesday night, to pick up his 10th save.

Martin finished 2 for 4 on the night.

The Twins had a chance in the bottom of the seventh to even the score, but Joe Mauer struck out with the tying run on third. Mauer was 0 for 4 on the night.

The Twins left nine runners on base and they were 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position.

Brian Dozier was 1 for 4 for the Twins, with his seventh double of the season.

The Twins and Rangers will close their four-game series Thursday afternoon at Target Field.
