Twins aim to propel past Royals in series finale

Right-hander Esmerling Vasquez will make his debut with the Twins as he heads to the hill Sunday afternoon. Solid pitching by Scott Diamond and a home run by Trevor Plouffe helped the Twins beat the Royals 7-2 in the daytime opener, while Cole De Vries scattered five hits over six innings and Josh Willingham hit a homer in the Twins' 5-1 win the nightcap.

A grand slam home run by Joe Mauer and a three-run shot by Chris Parmelee give the Twins enough push to secure an 8-7 win and a doubleheader sweep of the Kansas City Royals Saturday night at Kaufmann Stadium. Twins left-hander Scott Diamond gave up four runs and a season-high 10 hits in six innings in the team's loss 7-3 to the Kansas City Royals Saturday night at Kaufmann Stadium. Diamond, who has been the club's most consistent starter this season, fell to 8-4 with the loss.

Royals send Twins to third straight loss, 4-3

The Twins continued sliding out of contention in the AL Central by losing, 4-3 to the Royals at Target Field Friday night. On Tuesday the Twins were only 7.5 games out of first place, but three straight losses have dropped them 11 games behind the division-leading White Sox.
