The Minnesota Twins said Friday that Alex Meyer to the Rochester Red Wings' bullpen.
Meyer was one of the Twins' top pitching prospects in spring training, and competed for a spot in the starting rotation, but ultimate was optioned to their Triple-A affiliate in Rochester.
Meyer has struggled as a starter with the Red Wings. The 25-year-old has an ERA of 7.09 in his first seven games this season, the Pioneer Press reports. He's allowed 51 hits and 24 walks, with 41 strikeouts.
In his first seven games in 2014, his ERA was 4.33 with 42 strikeouts and 17 walks, according to SB Nation.
Meyer was the Washington Nationals' first-round draft pick in 2012, and the Twins acquired him by trading Denard Span, 1500 ESPN reports.
