Twins: Span, Pavano searching for peace of mind

Denard Span remains out of the Twins' lineup with a sore neck and shoulder, and Carl Pavano isn't anywhere close to re-joining the rotation. Span had an MRI done on his collar bone Monday and will undergo an MRI on his shoulder Tuesday. Carl Pavano will also meet with a specialist.

Denard Span took batting practice on Wednesday and he believes he's getting closer to playing again. "If my shoulder is ready to go, I'm going to play; if it's not ready to go, there's nothing I can do about it," he said. Span's goal is to play in the upcoming series against Texas.

Pavano, who struggled with injuries earlier in his career, is now mentoring the younger Twins on how to overcome their struggles.

The Twins don't have an exact timetable for Carl Pavano to return to the starting rotation, but he is expected to begin a throwing program this week. The 36 year old right-hander is on the disabled list with soreness in his throwing shoulder.
