The Minnesota Twins have traded third baseman Danny Valencia to the Boston Red Sox for minor league outfielder Jeremias Pineda. Pineda is leading the rookie Gulf Coast League in hitting. The Twins recalled infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka to replace Valencia.

Right-hander Brian Duensing will step in for Francisco Liriano, who was traded to the Chicago White Sox. Ubaldo Jimenez will take the hill for the Indians. Boston takes frustration with Twins into Saturday night game

The Twins are playing spoiler for the Boston Red Sox. After taking two of three from AL East-leading New York last weekend and doing the same against Detroit, Boston (53-54) has lost its first two against Minnesota, which has the second-worst record in the AL. Boston hopes to turn that around with Clay Buchholz pitching. Minnesota has won six of the last eight, and sends Cole De Vries, winless in his last five starts, to the mound.
