A change in the Gophers baseball schedule. Coach John Anderson says the team will play one more game at Siebert Field on May 1. The idea is to give the ballpark one last hurrah before its replaced with a new stadium on campus.

The Gophers broke ground on the construction of a new Siebert Field for the University's baseball team. Joel Maturi, who's era as Gophers athletics director ends next week, says it is " the beginning of a new era." The new venue is expected to hold 1,400 fans.

The University of Minnesota is struggling to reverse the trend of getting students interested in going to Gopher football games. The Star Tribune reports that student season ticket sales have steadily declined since the 50,800-seat TCF Bank Stadium opened three years ago -- from 10,000 in the first year to 7,800 in the second. This year, just two weeks before the season opener, only 2,000 have been sold.
