U of M approves limited beer, wine sales at TCF Bank Stadium

The University of Minnesota Board of Regents has approved the gameday sale of beer and wine in its TCF Bank Stadium. Beer will be allowed in premium seating as well as in a marked-off section of the west-end plaza of the stadium for general seating. It will only be sold one hour before kickoff until the end of halftime.

Don't expect changes in the Big Ten

Conference realignment across the collegiate landscape is happening almost everywhere. The Big Ten added Nebraska to bring it's total count to 12 teams, but they aren't planning on making any more changes. Conference commission Jim Delaney says they like what they currently have.

U of M board to vote on beer, wine sales at TCF Bank Stadium

The University of Minnesota's Board of Regents is expected to vote this week on a resolution to allow "beer or beer and wine sales" in the premium-seating section of TCF Bank Stadium and in a single "beer garden" during Gopher home football games. The vote is expected to wrap up years of debate about whether and where alcohol ought to be sold.

U of M bests UMD 5-4 in overtime

Don Lucia's Golden Gophers hockey team improved to 3-0 with a 5-4 overtime win over the defending national champion UMD Bulldogs. Sophomore winger Nate Condon scored the game winner with under a minute to play in the overtime period.

U of M's Mbakwe applies for another year of eligibility with Gophers

Trevor Mbakwe wants an NCAA waiver that would make him eligible to play another year of college basketball. He's not saying whether he'd actually use that extra year at the U of M, but says he'd like the option to come back. Mbakwe was leading the Gophers in scoring and rebounding when he blew out his knee during a November holiday tournament.

A competition at the recent Real Estate Challenge asked business students to submit redevelopment plans for an area on the U of M campus near TCF Bank Stadium. The top two plans selected by a panel of judges came from students at the University of Wisconsin and Marquette University. U of M students entered the contest, but did not place.
