Gophers agree to new date for 2012 football opener

The University of Minnesota will now play the University of Nevada-Las Vegas two days earlier than originally scheduled. UNLV made the request to move the game from Saturday, September 1 to Thursday, August 30. Kickoff time at Sam Boyd Stadium is still being determined.

Gophers' football season opens with a 10 p.m. CT kickoff at UNLV

The Golden Gophers football team will open the 2012 season with a 10:00 p.m. CT kickoff in Las Vegas against UNLV. It's a late start, but temperatures in the Vegas in late August usually push the 100 degree envelope. Minnesota's Big Ten opener is an 11:00 a.m. CT kickoff in Iowa against the Hawkeyes.

Gophers outlast UNLV 30-27 in triple overtime

It wasn't easy but the Golden Gophers opened the 2012 football season with a 30-27 win over UNLV in triple overtime in Las Vegas. Jordan Wettstein kicked a 32-yard field goal for the win. The triple overtime thriller gave Minnesota it's first road win with Jerry Kill as head coach.
