Video: Drone captures 11,000 anglers waiting for a nibble on frozen lake

The sight of 11,000 anglers taking part in the world's biggest charitable ice fishing competition has been captured on drone video.

Competitors from as far away as Poland made the trip to Gull Lake for the 25th Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza this past weekend.

The warmer weather led to a bumper crowd, and the spectacular sight of thousands of anglers gathering around tiny holes in the lake ice was documented by a Gopher Aerial drone, which took video footage of the event.

Anglers were competing for around $150,000 worth of prizes at the event, with the big winner being Steven Darrell from Owatonna, who caught the biggest fish – a northern pike weighing 6.73 pounds, KSTP reports.

He had the choice of two pick-up trucks, picking a GMC model from Mills Automatic Group, as his prize.

His catch was far ahead of second-placed Anthony Welch, of St. Paul, whose walleye weighed 3.67 pounds.
