Vikings re-sign running back Matt Asiata

The Minnesota Vikings announced in a press release today that running back Matt Asiata will be rejoining the team for the 2016 season.

Asiata has been backing up Vikings star Adrian Peterson since joining the team as an undrafted practice-squad recruit in 2011. According to the Vikings, he has made 10 starts during his 4 years with the team, 9 of those coming during Peterson's 2014 suspension.

In his starting role during 2014, Asiata rushed for 570 yards and 9 touchdowns. He caught one touchdown pass and tallied 312 receiving yards.

Last fall Asiata put together a season that included 112 yards on 29 carries and 19 receptions for 132 yards in 16 games.

Beat reporters for the Pioneer Press and the Star Tribune are reporting that Asiata signed a one year deal.
