We've got some bad news for pro wrestling fans – Minneapolis has been passed over as the host of next year's WrestleMania.

Officials had been touting the new $1 billion, 65,000-seat U.S. Bank Stadium to WWE as the perfect venue for WrestleMania 33.

Unfortunately, the WWE went another direction and on Monday announced "The Grandest Stage of Them All" would return to the Citrus Bowl in Orlando – which has already hosted it once in 2008.

But the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority – which operates the new Vikings Stadium – has said it will continue its efforts to bring the world's premier wrestling pay-per-view to the Twin Cities.

"While we are disappointed we will not be the home of WrestleMania 33, we wish Orlando good luck," MSFA chair Michele Kelm-Helgen told BringMeTheNews. "WrestleMania is a great event, and we will continue to bid to bring WrestleMania to Minnesota in the future."

Next year's 'Mania will mark the third time in nine years that Florida has hosted the event, having also been held at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami in 2012.

WrestleMania 32 will take place on April 3, with 100,000 people expected at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas.
