Monday night's Vikings season opener wasn't a thing of beauty as they were beaten by the San Francisco 49ers 20-3 at Levis Stadium in San Francisco.
While it was Adrian Peterson's first game in more than a year, it was a different No. 28 that controlled the night. Carlos Hyde gashed the Vikings defense for 168 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the 49ers to the victory.
Colin Kaepernick finished 17-of-26 for 165 yards. Kaepernick also ran for 41 yards on the night. He is now 5-0 in his career on Monday night football games.
Hyde and Kapernick led the 49ers offense which put up 395 yards of total offense.
The Vikings offense was much less efficient. Peterson was held to 31 yards rushing, on 10 carries. AP also caught three passes for 21 yards.
Teddy Bridgewater's night wasn't much better. Bridgewater completed 23 of 32 passes for 232 yards and an interception.
Afterwards, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer was critical of Bridgewater saying that at times the second-year signal caller looked unsure.
The Vikings put up just 248 yards against the San Francisco defense, which lost seven starters off its squad from last season.
The Vikings (0-1) return to TCF Bank Stadium Sunday to face NFC North rival Detroit. Kickoff is at noon.
