View from the end zone:
We're back with our in-game blog/narrative/rantings/whatever-you-want-to-call-it. It's Week 5, and the Vikings are still looking for their first win of 2011.
Here, we'll let you know what's happening just as if you were sitting in Section 123, in the corner of the south end zone.
We'll also (hopefully) get a few words of wisdom from KFAN's Tiny Joe Nelson, who is working in the radio booth with the voice of the Vikings, Paul Allen. A few weeks ago, we published a photo of TJN with PA, but TJN had his eyes closed, and it looked terrible. This week, his mom should be proud of this one:
Aside from the usual X's and O's insider stuff, we hope that Tiny Joe will text us sentences that look somewhat like this: "PA just laughed so hard that chocolate milk just came out of his nose." Or: "There's a really foul odor coming next door from the guys in the Cardinals radio booth." Just sayin'.
11:47: WNBA Champs Minnesota Lynx honored at 50-yard-line. Big pop from crowd and well-deserved!
11:55: Zeppelin introductions.
12:05: Three-and-out for the Cards on first possession.
12:07: Outside dome, scalpers still trying to sell unwanted tickets. Said one seller: "I can't give away anything upstairs and everything else is only half of face."
12:08: Vikes go three-and-out. CROWD BOOS LOUDLY. People in booth wondering if it was a horrible McNabb pass, or if pass interference should have been called.
12:10: We're big fans of this piece exploring Cardinals-Vikings history on the Vikes' web site.
12:19: Vikings 7, Cardinals 0 -- Adrian Peterson runs one in from the 4-yard-line as the Purple take an early lead.
12:22: THIS JUST IN FROM TINY JOE NELSON IN KFAN BOOTH: "Our AP beat up on their PeePee?!?!" That's what Pete Bercich said on the air after Adrian ran around Patrick Peterson!
12:25: Asher Allen picks one off, returns it to the Cardinals' 24.
12:26: Vikings 14, Cardinals 0 -- Adrian Peterson brings it home from 24 yards out on first play after Allen's interception.
12:30: Jared Allen recovers fumble on 25-yard-line. Vikings looking like a 4-0 team, despite McNabb getting booed by crowd for his passing game.
12:34: Vikings 21, Cardinals 0- -- Donovan McNabb, ball held high in victory, runs one in from the 4-yard-line.
12:44: Vikings 28, Cardinals 0 -- Adrian Peterson rushes for another TD as Minnesota grabs a four-touchdown lead.
12:49: Interesting tweet from Vikings PR guy, Jon Ekstrom: "5th time Adrian Peterson has scored 3 TDs in a game. He has never had a 4 TD game."
12:54: Photographer gets clocked on far sideline by Devin Aromashodu. Press box cynics want to hear Zeppelin's "Dazed and Confused" over loudspeakers.
12:54: They don't, so we will:
1:02: Vikings 28, Cardinals 3 -- Jay Feely hits a 51-yard field goal to get Arizona on the board.
1:12: Great tweet from KFAN's A.J. Mansour: "It should be pretty telling that despite a 25-point opening half lead, McNabb continues to receive boos. 2-10 passing for 41 yards."
1:13: The tweets get snarkier from the VikingsUpdate folks: "TheVikings have a 28-3 lead with Donovan McNabb 2 of 10 and a 44 passer rating. Yeah, I think that Peterson kid has a future in the NFL."
1:16: Cards go on 4th-and-2, make first down at the 34. Crowd silenced.
1:15: Just handed first quarter stats. Best number: Cards' time of possession 8:34, for zero points. Vikes' time of possession 6:26, for 28 points.
1:22: Bernard Berrian inactive for the game, by the way. Why? NFC Blogger Kevin Seifert hopes it's not political.
1:23: Jared Allen sack ends Cardinals' drive. Section 123 is on its feet.
1:31: THIS JUST IN FROM TINY JOE NELSON: "Nobody in booth was upset that they didn't try to score more points before the half, but Adrian and Harvin were visibly p.o.'d that the Vikings' coaching staff decided to let the clock run out rather than risk a turnover."
1:49: Second half drive. Michael Jenkins coughs one up after a catch from McNabb, Cardinals recover at the 41.
1:54: Just handed first half stats. Best numbers, again, time of possession. Cards: 10:25, Vikes: 4:35.
1:58: Vikings 28, Cardinals 10 -- Beanie Wells runs it in from 2-yard-line for Arizona's first TD of game.
1:58: Overheard in the booth: "Here we go...."
1:59: Twitterverse has same reaction. From KFAN's A.J. Mansour: "D-line is putting insane pressure on Kolb, but he continues to chuck the ball in the air to open receivers. #SecondHalfCollapse looming?"
2:08: He can pass! McNabb hits Aromashodu for 60-yard gain.
2:08: He can't pass! Some on Twitterverse say Cardinals defense fell down, allowing for big McNabb gainer.
2:11: Overheard in the booth as fans boo as Ryan Longwell sets up for field goal: "Take the points, don't listen to the stupid fans!"
2:11: Vikings 31, Cardinals 10 -- Ryan Longwell hits 26-yarder as Minnesota stretches lead to 21 again.
2:21: Third quarter ends. Cardinals fail on fourth and one, giving Minnesota the ball. Arizona needs three TDs to tie in final 15 minutes.
2:24: This is a surly crowd -- not really enjoying a 21-point lead. Every time McNabb throws an incompletion, jeers aplenty.
2:25: Announced crowd: 62,479. Another sellout, but a fan could get a ticket today. Empty seats everywhere across second deck.
2:25: Just in case you were wondering: Kids Vikings jerseys at souvenir stands: $65.
2:30: Longwell misses 43-yarder, ends a streak of 16-straight makes.
2:38: Jared Allen strikes again. Key sack of Kolb to temporarily zap Cards drive.
2:39: 4th and 22? Cards go for it again, incomplete in end zone. Arizona may be cooked. Second half curse might be over.
2:47: Vikings, however, go nowhere on next possession. Kenny Sipes Tweets: "Vikings are up 21 and McNabb is getting slaughtered with boos for every incompletion."
2:49: Big interception by Jamarca Sanford. Vikings can ice game, quiet whining crowd on this drive.
2:53: Something we haven't seen all season in Section 123: Crowd starts filing for the doors, confident of victory.
2:56: Vikings 34, Cardinals 10 -- 53-yard Longwell field goal ices game. Right? Right.
3:06: Another INT from Jamarca Sanford, 51-yards on the return. Vikes go into victory formation.
3:07: Final: Vikings 34, Cardinals 10 -- Minnesota goes to 1-4 on the 2011 season. Up next: Da Bears.
