The Minnesota Vikings waived quarterback Mike Kafka Tuesday morning.
Kafka's release puts the Vikings' roster at 75 players – the maximum allowed for all NFL teams beginning at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Minnesota waived 11 players, including running back Joe Banyard on Sunday, to get down to 78 on the roster. Kafka's release, along with moves to place Eden Prairie native, offensive tackle Carter Bykowski, on injured reserve and cornerback Josh Robinson (pectoral injury) on the physically unable to perform list got them to the limit.
Kafka, though, might not be completely done in Minnesota. A reporter from the Pioneer Press
" target="_blank">expects Kafka will clear waivers and be placed on injured reserve with the Vikings.
The Pioneer Press reports that Kafka suffered a hamstring injury in Saturday's preseason game against the Cowboys.
Minnesota closes out the preseason Thursday night on the road against the Tennessee Titans. The final 53-man roster needs to be settled on by Saturday.
