Ten-year-old Austin Deckard's dream to meet NFL star Cam Newton came true when the Carolina Panthers quarterback surprised him in his hospital room on Tuesday.
According to the Ledger-Inquirer, the boy was scheduled to undergo a dangerous surgery Wednesday to help control a rare heart condition called advanced pulmonary hypertension.
“I feel your heart — it’s going 1,000 miles per hour,” Newton told the boy as he hugged him, according to WSOC.

Newton used his day off and flew from North Carolina to Atlanta, Georgia, to surprise Deckard after he saw the emotional plea from Deckard's phy-ed teacher on Facebook.
"Austin may not ever make it to an Auburn football game but I know social media is a strong force that can make things happen," Courtney Cooper posted to Facebook on Dec. 20. "Let's use it for something positive and spread this like wildfire and somehow, someway get the word to Cam Newton and give this precious little boy his wish."
