Watch (if you dare): This basketball player's eyeball pops out of socket

A baskeball player in New Zealand found out his eye fell out of socket when his hand touched it.

Injuries are gross. Bones and ligaments snap, blood sometimes gushes and every now and again an eyeball pops out of socket.

Before you watch the video below, just know that this guy is fine. In fact, he could see out of his dislocated eyeball the entire time.

The guy's name is Akil Mitchell, a former University of Virginia player. Coincidentally, his teammate in New Zealand is ex-Gopher, Paul Carter.

Mitchell's explanation of how his eye fell out of its hole is both fascinating and nauseating. From the team's website:

Mitchell revealed that it was with his own hand that he first discovered his eye had been dislodged.

“I’m looking up and my eye’s still moving but it’s out here,” he explained, pointing to the area outside of his eye.

“I touched it and I immediately wanted to push it back in and I was like, ‘that’s a bad idea’.

“I could still see, I could still move it. I never lost vision, never went blurry, thank God. It’s feeling much better today.”

Mitchell’s explanation of the injury is not for the fainthearted.

“My eye was out of my head so it was a little painful,” he said.

We're just glad Mitchell won't be dressed as a pirate the rest of his life.
