Watch: Matt Kalil says Vikings fans harassed him on Twitter

Ever wonder why Matt Kalil didn't want to re-sign with the Vikings?

To play in the NFL these days, you have to have some pretty thick skin – just ask former Vikings offensive lineman Matt Kalil.

Throughout his five seasons in Minnesota, Vikings fans had a love-hate relationship with Kalil and apparently he knew it.

During the opening moments of an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show, Kalil made it clear that he is no longer on Twitter after his tumultuous stint with the Vikings.

"After playing in Minnesota, I just got rid of my Twitter," said Kalil while appearing on the show with his brother and teammate Ryan Kalil. "I was harassed left and right."

Matt Kalil signed a five-year $55 million contract with Carolina earlier this month.

He was drafted by the Vikings with the No. 4 overall pick in 2012. Despite battling through several injuries during his time with the Vikings, Kalil started every game of his career at left tackle – until he was injured during Week 2 last season against the Packers.

But Kalil didn't really live up to expectations in Minnesota – especially with the fans. On more than one occasion, he felt the venom of Vikings' fans on Twitter following a sack, penalty or a bad game.

"I'm off the grid," Kalil added. "I have a private Instagram account – family members only."

If you want to see everything else the former Vikings left tackle had to say during the interview you can watch it here.
