The Minnesota State Mavericks have smooth sailing through the WCHA regular season, according to those who cover the conference.

With the University Minnesota now out of the way as a member of the newly formed Big Ten Hockey Conference, the Mavericks garnered 22 of the 25 first-place votes in the poll.

Michigan's Ferris State took down two first-place votes, while the only other Minnesota team left in the WCHA, Bemidji State, finished eighth in the ten-team poll, but strangely garnered a vote to finish at the top of the conference as well.

As far as individual honors, Minnesota State was also heavy in that area, nabbing three of the six spots on the preseason all-conference team, as well as the preseason player of the year, junior forward Matt Leitner.
