You might be surprised what NBA superstar reminds Michael Jordan of a younger version of himself.
But, according to a new promotional video for the reveal of the Air Jordan XXX1, MJ says it's Russell Westbrook.
"Thirty years ago, that's me. The attitude, trying to prove myself, showing so much passion for the game of basketball. You see it in his play. You can tell he loves the game, he plays with energy and flair."
Yes the same Russell Westbrook, who was just dumped by Kevin Durant to go to Golden State. Yes, the same Russell Westbrook, who was rumored to be headed to the Timberwolves and several other places during the offseason.
But all of those rumors aside, the same Russell Westbrook, who just signed a new contract to remain in Oklahoma City.
NBC Sports says with Kobe Bryant now retired, Westbrook probably is the closest thing to Jordan in the game today. But keep in mind that Westbrook is also a Jordan Brand endorser.
Either way though Westbrook was honored by the comparison.
"I really don't know what to say," Westbrook told Complex.com. "To have the best player who ever played the game to say that about you as a player and as a person is something that is going to keep me striving."
Well after losing Durant, Westbrook now has something to strive for.
