Big news today as the Vikings have released veteran wide receiver Mike Wallace.
Wallace didn't inflict nearly as much damage on opponents as the Vikings thought he could. He caught just 2 touchdowns from Teddy Bridgewater, 8 shy of the 10 he finished with in 2014 with the Miami Dolphins.
Wallace was set to make $11.45 million in base salary next season, and his 2015 numbers – 39 catches for 473 yards and 2 touchdowns – weren't nearly what the Vikings were expecting.
Despite his lack of production on the field, Wallace may have eliminated the diva perception her carried with him from Miami to Minnesota. Vikings general manager Rick Spielman loved Wallace's leadership in the locker room.
“(Wallace) probably was disappointing from a statistical standpoint, but (there was) what Mike Wallace brought into our locker room and his buy-in and his sacrifice from a standpoint of stats and what was best for the team,’’ Spielman said last month at the NFL Combine.
