Wild lose after 8-round shootout with Red Wings

The Minnesota Wild pushed their game with the Red Wings into an eight-round shootout, but Detroit walked away with the 3-2 win Saturday night at Xcel Energy Center.

Minnesota scored first with a Zach Parise goal – with the assists from Mikael Granlund and Jason Pominville. Just two minutes later Detroit tied the game 1-1 near the end of the first.

Detroit took a 2-1 lead on a power play goal at 17:13 into the second period.

Parise sunk a game-tying goal in the third on a Wild power play, with Henrik Zetterberg and Niklas Kronwall on the assist.

After a scoreless overtime, the game went into a shootout. Jason Pominville and Thomas Vanek had two goals and Detroit sunk two.

Then in the eighth round, Detroit's Darren Helm shot the game-winner, which the refs had to review.

The puck bounced off goalie Devan Dubnyk's skates, but it crossed the line and was good.

The Wild have lost two straight games for the first time since January. The Wild are still four points ahead of the Jets for the wild card spot, NHL.com reports.

Captain Mikko Koivu didn't play. He had an eye injury, and the Wild say he is "day-to-day."

They'll play the Jets Monday in Winnipeg. There are four games left in the season.
