Wild struck by Lightning, snap their 4-game winning streak

Author:

The Wild failed to convert on three power plays against the Lightning in their 2-1 loss Saturday night, which also snapped their four-game winning streak, the Associated Press reports.

Tampa Bay got goals from Steven Stamkos and Alex Killorn, who scored what turned out to be the game winner late in the second period. The goal was his fourth in the past four games, according to NHL.com. Goalie Ben Bishop stopped 30 shots.

The Wild (11-8-0) got on the board first at 3:11 of the second period when Zach Parise scored his seventh goal of the season off a nice play by Thomas Vanek. Vanek took a pass from Parise and faked a shot, which forced Bishop to commit before Vanek passed the puck back to Parise for the goal, according to NHL.com.

Stamkos tied the game at 13:42 of the second period with a power-play goal. Killorn put Tampa Bay up for good with his goal at 1:53 in the second period when he redirected a shot from defenseman Anton Stralman above the shoulder of Wild goalie Darcy Kuemper.

Kuemper finished with 26 saves.

Bishop made two saves during Minnesota's power play early in the third period; his biggest was when he stopped Wild wing Nino Niederreiter on a shot in front of the net during a power play. Niederreiter had a clear shot to the net, but Bishop blocked it with his glove, said NHL.com.

The Wild went 0 for 3 on the power play, and are 1 for 38 in the man advantage on the road.

There were some special attendees at the game Saturday night, as the Wild invited the fathers and mentors of the players to the game as well as practice earlier in the day. For the players, competing in front of their fathers was a special experience.

The Wild play at the Florida Panthers on Monday.
