Minneapolis leaders say they have city council votes to approve stadium

Officials say they have support from a majority of the City Council, but lingering questions about financing and other issues mean the plan is still in question, Forum Communications reports. One key issue is how the state would pay its share of the cost. The current proposal would tap revenue from electronic pull-tabs and bingo, but some critics question whether that will cover the tab.

Letter shows Minneapolis City Council support for Vikings stadium legislation

The Pioneer Press obtained a draft letter to Gov. Mark Dayton and the stadium bill sponsors. The letter expresses majority support for the plan although there's no indication the letter was delivered. The letter says "we stand ready to be the local partner for a stadium solution." It also reinforces the requirement for Target Center improvements. Stadium legislation stalled in part because city officials balked at the plan.

Governor takes stadium lobbying effort to Minneapolis city council

Gov. Mark Dayton met separately with city council members Sandy Colvin Roy and Kevin Reich and says both are "willing to consider their position(s)" regarding the plan for a new Vikings stadium. Right now the plan does not seem to have support from a majority of the council. Dayton says if it did, that would help the stadium bill's prospects at the Capitol.

Tight timeline to complete stadium by 2016

From prep work and design to construction, dozens of tasks have to be addressed with a sense of urgency. The Vikings want the new stadium ready to go for the 2016 NFL season. The Star Tribune reports hours after lawmakers agreed to the nearly $1 billion stadium deal, officials started creating a timeline. First, Gov. Mark Dayton needs to sign the bill and at least seven members of the Minneapolis City Council also have to approve the deal.

Rybak turns up lobbying effort as city stadium vote nears

Mayor R.T. Rybak thinks there are just enough yes votes to get the Vikings stadium plan through the Minneapolis City Council.
