You can now wear blaze pink when hunting in Wisconsin

Pink is the new orange (is the new black) in Wisconsin, thanks to a new bill signed into law by Gov. Scott Walker.

A bill was proposed last May that would allow hunters to wear blaze pink when they're out in the wild as a way of attracting more women into hunting.

That bill has now been passed, with FOX 21 reporting Walker approved it on Thursday.

Rep. Nick Milroy, D-South Range, and Sen. Terry Moulton, R-Chippewa Falls, proposed the bill, saying it was designed to provide more options for hunters and boost interest in the pursuit at a time hunter numbers are declining. But FOX 6 notes some female hunters have described the measure as sexist.

Before this law, only orange blaze protective clothing was allowed to be worn by hunters in Wisconsin.

The Duluth News Tribune reports the new bill had bipartisan support, with the bill's House co-sponsor Rep. Joel Kleefisch saying the goal was to get more men and women off the couch and into the woods.

According to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Wisconsin is the first state to allow blaze pink, though Arkansas has allowed chartreuse as well as orange since the 1990s.

Only orange is allowed to be worn by hunters in Minnesota as well. Read more about that and other hunting safety measures here.
