Zimmer: Adrian Peterson will have a say on whether he plays in preseason

The last time Adrian Peterson took a handoff in a preseason game was in 2011. But that could soon change, according to what Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer told reporters Monday afternoon.

ESPN's Ben Goessling reports that Zimmer hasn't decided whether or not AP will play in any preseason games this season, but added the decision will be at least partially based on whether Peterson wants to get some work in during an exhibition game.

Viking Update notes that if Peterson were to play in a preseason game, it most likely would come during the Vikings third exhibition contest. That is typically when the starters usually play the most as they prepare to kick off the season.

It's also on national television – and will be the first time the Vikings will take the field in the brand new U.S. Bank Stadium.

But Zimmer said there's no need for AP to get on the field before the Vikings opener in Tennessee on Sept. 11.

"I see him on highlight films almost every day," Zimmer said.
