The nearly three million Minnesotans that cast their votes Tuesday put the state at the top of the list for voter turnout nationwide. Nearly 76 percent of eligible voters in the state made it to the polls and broke a record number of ballots cast, but the percentage of voters is actually lower than it was in 2008.
President Barack Obama, who canceled campaign events for a third day to focus on Hurricane Sandy, will make remarks on the tarmac at Austin Straubel International Airport near Green Bay on Thursday morning. The Obama and Romey campaigns are making last-ditch efforts to win Midwestern states. Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod said he would shave his mustache of 40 years if Obama loses Minnesota, Michigan or Pennsylvania.
Fresh from their only debate of the campaign, in which Vice President Joe Biden and vice presidential nominee Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., badgered each other for 90 minutes, the two candidates plan Dairy State stops. Biden will be in La Crosse Friday. Ryan is in Ohio Friday, but he'll speak at a fundraiser for Senate candidate Tommy Thompson Sunday, and plans a town-hall meeting Monday at Carroll University in Waukesha.
