The number of jobs available in Minnesota counties outside the Twin Cities area is at an eight-year high. But some analysts are serving up a grain of salt with that seemingly cheery news. The Jobs Now Coalition notes that barely half the jobs are full-time and the median hourly wage is barely ten dollars -- not quite enough to live on.
Members of the United Steelworkers union and Cliffs Natural Resources have agreed on a new three-year labor contract, the Duluth News Tribune reports. The deal covers about 1,100 workers at ore plants in Eveleth and Hibbing. Both sides failed to reach an agreement by the Sept. 1 deadline, but agreed to a contract extension that kept the northern Minnesota plants operating while negotiations continued.

Sheriffs officials say the union employee told them a replacement worker nearly hit him with a vehicle driving at high speed through a crowd of picketers. Police say the replacement actually drove slowly and the worker jumped on the hood.
