Crews with the Minnesota Department of Transportation used a "self-propelled modular transporter" for the first time to move the Maryland Avenue bridge over Interstate 35E Saturday. Kent Barnard with MnDOT tells KARE 11 the new technology reduced closure time for the bridge deck by 50 percent.

St. Cloud location of most dangerous intersection in Minnesota

The south junction of Hwy. 23 and Minnesota 15 is the most dangerous intersection in the state, according to data obtained by MinnPost from the Minnesota Department of Transportation. MinnPost listed the 20 most accident prone intersections in the state, based on data collected from 2006 to 2010 -- the most recent available for the analysis.

More freeway closures, more traveling headaches

MnDOT will shut down two stretches of heavily-traveled intestates in the Twin Cities this weekend. Motorists will want to avoid both directions of I-494 between Hwy 100 and I-35W, as well as the eastbound lanes of Interstate 694 between I-35W and Lexington Avenue. These two areas will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday until Monday morning's rush hour.

Addressing controversy, MnDOT to put flags on metro bridges

The Minnesota Department of Transportation said Friday that it will install U.S. flags on a number of bridges in the northwest Twin Cities metro area. The move comes after MnDOT faced numerous complaints from the public and a VFW in Brooklyn Park over the removal of flags illegally placed on bridges in the metro.
