The video, posted by the TikTok account @5aahhh shows a man outside a vehicle engaged in a verbal confrontation with the caption: “Neighbors in Shakopee, MN ran outside to harass my Somali family BORN IN AMERICA for HOUSE SHOPPING. Accused them of stealing money. Said they don’t belong. These people don’t want us here and they’re not hiding it anymore.” 

In the video, the man outside the vehicle can be heard saying, “Not a single person wants you here”, “I can smell you from here”, and “Where did you get the money for the house?” an apparent reference to the fallout after fraud was uncovered in many of Minnesota’s Medicaid programs. 

About halfway through the video, a woman joins the man, also accusing the group of stealing money. Expletives are shouted from both parties. 

The woman, believed to be the person recording the interaction,  can be heard responding: "Nobody bothered you guys, you decided to be in people’s business."

As of Wednesday afternoon, the video has garnered more than 180,000 views and nearly 6,000 comments. Rep. Brad Tabke (DFL) who represents Shakopee in the Minnesota House of Representatives tells Bring Me The News the video was taken on Monday as a Somali family was looking at homes in a Shakopee neighborhood.

"Dozens of neighbors in Shakopee shared that video with me yesterday, and were concerned that this viral, racist video would define our town," Tabke shared in a statement Wednesday.

"It doesn't define our town – we're defined by the good, nice, diverse and hardworking Minnesotans who live here who don't care what your background is – we're all neighbors. I hope that guy apologizes and sees how his actions can hurt others, and I hope that family, who was considering moving here, aren't chased away from our incredible town because of this guy's hate."

Tabke also shared a video in response to the incident.

It’s still unclear what events precipitated the recording of the video, and if authorities are investigating the incident. 

After a sunny Monday evening for mgk (fka Machine Gun Kelly), Tuesday's concert with the Dave Matthews Band at the new Live Nation-run venue had to be scuttled amid heavy rain in Shakopee.

Following a delayed opening and a post stating "our shows go on rain or shine - dress accordingly," Live Nation announced shortly before 7 p.m. that the concert would be postponed to Aug. 31.

"When it became clear that lightning was forecasted in the area through 9 p.m., we quickly updated the show status since we could not have gotten fans back into the venue to enjoy a show before the curfew," Live Nation said in a statement shared with Bring Me The News.

"We understand that fans are disappointed with the postponement of the show and we look forward to seeing everyone on August 31."

Fans responded to the cancellation on social media with skepticism after images circulated showing standing water in the venue's lower bowl.

The tour's photographer, Sanjay Suchak, posted photos to Instagram showing water in the pit area near the front of the stage. The posts were later deleted, and it's not clear how significant any flooding may have been.

However, even with clear skies around the scheduled showtime, the forecast held the potential for lightning, which would require further delays, pushing the lengthy Dave Matthews Band set up against the venue's curfew.

Representatives for Live Nation did not respond to a request for comment about Suchak's photos.

After the show was officially postponed, Matthews joked about the situation in a video shared to a fan page on Facebook, telling concertgoers outside his bus, "I hope it rains like hell tonight."

The inaugural season at Mystic Lake Amphitheater continues on Thursday with The Guess Who. Fortunately, there's no rain in the forecast.

Twin Cities residents LaMar Javis Burgess, 44, and his son, LaMar Dazjar Burgess, 23, were indicted earlier this month with making false claims for tax refunds and for conspiring to defraud the U.S. government. 

From 2022 to 2024, the Burgess’ are accused of preparing and filing tax returns containing millions of dollars in fake claims for both themselves and others, promoting the tax fraud scheme and charging customers a portion of their tax refunds as a fee. The fake returns included falsified employment and tax credit information. 

Prosecutors also allege the elder Burgess used videos and manuals to learn how to carry out the fraud scheme, including one guide called “TurboTax Sauce the ‘Self-Employed’ Way.”

In 2021, the two are also accused of filing false tax returns that claimed “refundable sick and family leave tax credits available to certain self-employed individuals unable to work due to COVID-19,” per the U.S Attorney’s Office. 

LeMar Burgess is facing additional charges after law enforcement discovered he had a handgun, and is in federal custody ahead of his trial. He is barred from possessing firearms or ammunition at any time due to his prior felony convictions.

“False refund claims steal from every honest taxpayer who follows the law and pays their fair share,” said Special Agent in Charge of Chicago’s IRS Criminal Investigation Adam Jobes in a statement. 

“IRS-CI special agents will continue using their expertise in forensic accounting to expose tax fraud schemes and bring fraudulent tax preparers to justice.”

Lonely's Bar quietly opened at 117 SE Main St. in Minneapolis last week, bringing a new chapter to one of the city's oldest bar locations. The building was considered the longest continually operating bar space, dating back to the 1890s, until Pracna on Main closed in 2015.

It's owned by Erik Hamline, a former owner of Bar Harmony, and Eric Odness and Michael Peterson, owners of Zhora Darling, who have revitalized the space with a "back to basics" mentality. 

Sitting next to The Main Cinema, it's a straightforward bar with brick walls and a pool table. The cocktail menu skips cutesy names in favor of classics.

The narrow room maintains the historic feel, sparsely adorned with a bar and booths, as well as a backroom with a fireplace. There are TVs for special events, but the owners say they'll be off most of the time. 

It embraces simplicity and a classic feel in more ways than just leaning into the building's history. Its website only features the bar's name and address on a white background. The signage is minimal. The hours are vague, listed as "day and night," with plans to stay open until bar close most nights. 

Even the prices are reminiscent of an earlier era, with $2 coffees, $4 cans of beer, and drafts that max out at $8. There's also bar food, served in paper dishes, with the most expensive item priced at $12, per the Star Tribune.

For imbibers looking for a drink around the riverside or after a movie, Lonely's Bar is open now, day to night.

Kory Thomas Kwakenat, 55, is being held in the Dakota County Jail in Hastings on $20,000 conditional bond. 

Officers were called to an apartment building on Rahn Road in Eagan just before 8 a.m. on June 15. The 911 caller told police Kwakenat was in the hallway, swinging a bat and screaming racial slurs. 

When police arrived at the scene, they knocked on Kwakenat’s door, who refused to open it, telling officers he would “take this baseball bat and run it up your ass,” per criminal charges. 

Investigators then spoke with a woman, who said when she got home from work, her children told her Kwakenat had been yelling racial slurs at them. He also swung a baseball bat at her, threatening to "shoot" her kids. 

According to prosecutors, Kwakenat was uncooperative and disorderly with law enforcement, who asked officers to shoot him. He was eventually forced out of the home after officers fired tear gas into his apartment. A baseball bat and two replica firearms were found in his bedroom.

In an interview with detectives, Kwakenat allegedly said he was angry after people were making noise in the hallway, and admitted he had a baseball bat, but said he was using it like a cane. He also admitted to initially threatening officers, but said “it was just him having a big mouth.” 

Kwakenat’s next court date is scheduled for late August.

Korda won the Chevron Championship in late April before winning the U.S. Women's Open earlier this month. She'll tee off just after 9:15 a.m. CT Thursday on the first tee, with Hannah Green, the winner of the 2019 Women's PGA Championship at Hazeltine, playing with her.

Ernest Anyere Ngwa, 53, of Oakdale, has been charged with two counts of DWI, as well as reckless driving and failure to notify an owner or police of property damaged in a traffic collision.

Officers were called on June 20 around 11 p.m. to 600 block of Kingfisher Lane on a report of a car that had struck multiple townhouses.

The vehicle also hit a gas line, causing a large gas leak, which led to the evacuation of homes in the area out of an abundance of caution, according to Woodbury Public Safety.

Upon arrival, an officer found an "extremely slow, lethargic, and dazed" Ngwa in a white vehicle that appeared to be stopped in a yard, with "the strong odor of a consumed alcoholic beverage emitting from within the vehicle," per the complaint.

The officer also reported that Ngwa had "red bloodshot and watery eyes," and that he "had poor balance and was unable to walk on his own" when he exited the vehicle.

A field sobriety test wasn't conducted due to Ngwa's condition for his safety.

Ngwa provided a preliminary breath test resulting in a 0.295 BAC reading at the scene of the crash. The legal limit in Minnesota is 0.08 for most adult drivers.

Ngwa was transported to Regions Hospital, where he ultimately refused to provide a blood or urine sample for further analysis of his blood alcohol concentration, despite being shown a signed search warrant and being told refusal to provide a sample was a crime.

At the scene of the crash, officers observed damage to townhouses, electrical boxes, a streetlight pole, and grass.

The complaint says it appeared that Ngwa's vehicle had been "moving at high speeds not safe for the residential neighborhood and had been driving recklessly through the neighborhood with no regard for the public safety."

It doesn't appear that Ngwa has been previously convicted of impaired driving.

The Minnesota-born band has announced plans to release its 12th studio album on Aug. 28. It'll be followed by a lengthy tour of summer festival appearances and a headlining stint through North America in the fall.

For the record, "Sanctuary Park," they've reunited with Toronto-based producer Bob Ezrin, who also produced their 2000 LP, "Smile." It'll be their first new studio record since 2020's "XOXO."

The new tour — dubbed "Sanctuary Park Tour: Celebrating 40 years of the Jayhawks" — starts with an Oct. 16 stop in Toronto and includes a hometown gig at the State Theatre in downtown Minneapolis on Nov. 21. 

Tickets for the entire tour go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 26. 

So, where does the Wild stand with a week left until free agency begins? Let's dive into the latest rumors...

Latest on Dylan Larkin pursuit

While the Tkachuk deal happened in quick order, the Larkin sweepstakes has been moving at a snail's pace. It's been three weeks since the Detroit center made it public that he wants a trade. The Wild immediately jumped to the front of the line as an ideal landing spot, and were reportedly among the three teams he is willing to waive his no-trade clause for.

However, that may be changing. According to Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos, there could be a different Central Division team that's caught Larkin's eye: the Dallas Stars.

"While Larkin will have some control over his next destination because of that clause, GM Steve Yzerman also has control on if Larkin gets traded at all," wrote Kypreos. "There is a strong push for Larkin to expand his list of teams he’s willing to go to. Yzerman will not move him if he feels he’s getting squeezed. Look for Yzerman's former assistant GM, Pat Verbeek, to try and get in on this. However, it appears Larkin's destination of choice is Dallas."

Larkin would be a perfect fit to fill the Wild's need for a top-line center. On a team-friendly five-year deal with an AAV of $8.7 million, he would be a great linemate for superstar Kirill Kaprizov. And, as we've seen this offseason, he would get to pair up with his gold-medal-winning teammates in Quinn Hughes, Brock Faber, and Matt Boldy.

So, what's the holdup? According to The Athletic's Michael Russo, Detroit GM Steve Yzerman is to blame. Responding to a question on X about why the Wild haven't offered a "huge deal" like they reportedly did on Tkachuk (more on that in a second), Russo responded, "They've offered a huge package for Larkin too. It's Yzerman who's taking his time."

While the Wild may have offered a "huge package" for Larkin, the holdup on Yzerman's end may be that he doesn't like what the Wild has to offer. Speaking to The Athletic's Joe Smith, former NHL general manager Craig Button said he doesn't think the Wild have enough for an elite-level player like Larkin.

“Larkin, an elite player in the National Hockey League, for Charlie Stramel and Yurov? Come on,” said Button. “When other teams can offer so much more, that’s the problem Minnesota has. It’s not that those guys aren’t decent prospects. It’s that the other teams have more. They have better prospects.”

Wild made a 'big offer' for Tkachuk

While he waited for a resolution on the Larkin sweepstakes, Guerin reportedly tried to land former Senators captain Brady Tkachuk before he was traded to Florida, where he joins his brother Matthew. According to Russo, Guerin made a significant offer to Ottawa for Tkachuk that included the "equivalent of four first-round picks."

"Minnesota made a big offer for Tkachuk after he included the Wild on his list of four teams he’d waive his no-move clause to join, per league sources," wrote Russo. "Like the Hughes trade, it was the equivalent of four first-round picks. But in the end, even though you can make the argument that the Wild’s offer was better because their package wasn’t all draft picks, the Senators had no choice but to accept the Panthers’ offer because Tkachuk, who had a no-move clause, had become intent on joining forces with his brother, Matthew, in Florida."

With Tkachuk off the board, Guerin now presumably returns all his efforts into landing Larkin.

'No interest' in Vegas' Hertl

Another center who has appeared in trade rumors is 32-year-old Tomas Hertl of the Vegas Golden Knights. Vegas is in need of cap relief, and the veteran center may be a casualty of that. Kypreos suggested that Hertl "could draw interest from Minnesota."

However, when asked if the Wild could pursue Hertl, Russo bluntly responded: "Wild have no interest."

Wild owner comments on Hughes extension

Saving the best for last, Wild owner Craig Leipold was on MPR News on Wednesday morning and dropped this nugget about the team's quest to sign star defenseman Quinn Hughes to an extension.

"First of all, Quinn Hughes is an extraordinary player and is an extraordinary person," Leipold told Angela Davis. "We had to give up a lot to get him in this past year. We are going to re-sign him. The question will be for how long. We would like to go as long as we could. He will probably want it to be a little shorter. Shorter maybe being three years. We hopefully will end up at five. I don't know. The reason I can openly talk about this is that I'm not doing the negotiating."

Leipold essentially confirmed what has been widely reported and speculated. It's long been thought that if Hughes does ink an extension, it would be for three years to line up with the end of his brother Jack's deal in New Jersey. Leipold added that while he does have a voice in the negotiations, he mostly leaves the deals up to Guerin.

Thunderstorms arrived on Tuesday afternoon and continued into the evening, dropping more than two inches of rain in parts of the state.

The storm caused significant problems in the Twin Cities, specifically at the new, 19,000-capacity Mystic Lake Amphitheater. The outdoor venue was forced to postpone the Dave Matthews Band performance until the end of August due to the threat of lightning.

Katie Lee Miles, 49, is facing multiple felony assault charges in relation to the incident, which took place in the early morning hours of June 22. Police were initially called to the home on a report the man had cut his chest while doing the dishes. 

When they arrived at the home on the 700 block of North 6th Street, officers found the man lying on the floor with a bloody rag pressed to his chest. A young boy was also at the scene, along with Miles, who was pacing and telling law enforcement to "help."

The victim told officers he accidentally cut his chest while he was doing the dishes after slipping on a rug and landing on the knife. He was rushed to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. 

A different sequence of events emerged after officers spoke with the young witness, who said Miles, who is his mother, and the victim had been arguing for hours before the stabbing.

The boy told officers his mom and the victim fight about once a month, usually because of alcohol. During the argument, he heard Miles going through the victim’s phone and heard her call him an anti-gay slur, and claimed he was cheating. 

The boy told police he had been sleeping when he heard a loud sound, and went to the kitchen to see a bloody knife in between Miles and the victim, before he fell into the kitchen table. The boy then ran out of the home and called 911 because he thought the victim was dying. 

As of Wednesday morning, Miles was still in custody in the Wabasha County Jail.

Tommy's Tonka Trolley shared a photo from a customer who apparently met the “Hamilton” creator on Monday evening at the ice cream stand on Lake Minnetonka's Excelsior Bay.

"It’s always is very cool when we have a celebrity that stops by but this was pretty special last night," Tommy's Tonka Trolley wrote in a Tuesday social media post.

"I’m sorry, Lin, we sell Sebastian Joe’s not Piragua," the post continues, alluding to his Puerto Rican heritage.

It's unclear why Miranda was in town on Monday, or what his flavor of choice was at Tommy's Tonka Trolley.

Miranda is currently working on an adaptation of "Warriors," his first full musical since "Hamilton," which is heading to Broadway next spring.

His cousin, José Miranda, previously played as an infielder for the Minnesota Twins.

BMTN Note: Weather events in isolation can't always be pinned on climate change, but the broader trend of increasingly severe weather and record-breaking extremes seen in Minnesota and across the globe can be attributed directly to the rapidly warming climate caused by human activity. In a unanimous vote Tuesday night, school board members approved the $814.5 million budget, taking into account the $14.35 million shortfall, which is approximately 2% of the district’s total budget.

District leaders blame the budget gap on increased expenses, which have outpaced aid revenue from the state, and declining enrollment. 

The approved plan balances the budget, and also maintains 5% of required reserve funds.

The district notes it was able to avoid larger cuts thanks to a referendum passed by voters last November, generating about $40 million for St. Paul Public Schools over the next decade. 

“This additional revenue significantly reduced our budget gap and allowed SPPS to sustain the programs that students and families value most,” said Superintendent Dr. Stacie Stanley in a statement. 

According to KSTP, the cuts will impact positions at both the district’s schools and within district offices, eliminating about 115 positions in total, with about 90 of those coming from schools. It will also cut the annual increase in supply budgets. 

Throughout the budgeting process, more than 6,000 stakeholders weighed in, identifying three key priorities: keep full-day pre-K programs, maintain at least 95% of instructional support services, and continue its commitment to language and culture programs. 

"In keeping with our Board budget policy and parameters, this budget represents our commitment to prioritizing spending on the programs and staff positions that have the greatest direct impact on our students in the classroom,” said Board of Education Chair Uriah Ward in a statement following the vote. 

Walz announced Tuesday that his office has filed Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests with 16 federal agencies, seeking records, communications, and writings dating back to Jan. 20 that reference “Minnesota," "Walz," "reckoning," "retribution," "punish," or "Democrat."

It follows the unsealing of a federal judge's order Monday that quashed the U.S. Department of Justice’s subpoenas of Walz and other Democrats, including Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, over their responses to Operation Metro Surge.

U.S. District Judge Patrick Schlitz ruled that the DOJ investigation into whether Walz and other officials obstructed or impeded Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol operations in Minnesota was unconstitutional, politically motivated, and completely unfounded.

Schlitz wrote that the "dominant purpose of the challenged subpoenas is to coerce Minnesota officials into assisting the federal government with enforcing civil immigration law and to harass and retaliate against them for failing to do so."

“For nearly a year, Minnesotans have lived through a coordinated campaign of retribution from the Trump Administration,” Walz said in a statement Tuesday. “We have seen it in lawsuits, funding threats, and investigations from an administration looking to come after those who disagree with them.

"Yesterday, a judge confirmed what we have known all along. Today, we are taking steps to find out exactly how far this campaign reaches, who’s directing it, and what it has cost Minnesotans."

The federal government has subjected Minnesota to more than 100 demands, investigations, lawsuits, and threats to illegally withhold critical funding from the state, according to Walz's office.

That includes President Donald Trump's social media post from Jan. 13, promising that "THE DAY OF RECKONING & RETRIBUTION IS COMING," quickly followed by his vow to cut federal funding due to resistance to his immigration policies in Minnesota's so-called “sanctuary cities.”

Minnesota is suing the Trump administration for evidence that’s been withheld in the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti and the non-fatal shooting of Julio Sosa-Celis, all by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis in January.

The Ecuadorian restaurant, located on Central Avenue in Northeast Minneapolis, announced the news in a Tuesday Instagram post. 

“We want to let you know that we recently experienced a fire in our basement. Thankfully, everyone is safe, but we are currently working hard to clean up and restore our space,” the post read. 

No one was hurt in the fire, and the restaurant remains open. Seating is available on the restaurant’s outdoor patio as well as limited indoor seating.

Chimborazo has been open since 2009 in Central Avenue, becoming a fast-favorite in the Audubon Park neighborhood. In 2024 it expanded to a second location, opening at Lexington Parkway and Randolph Avenue in St. Paul.

J. Crew returned on June 24, eight years after it exited the Bloomington shopping center. The clothing retailer revealed plans for the store in January, but hadn't announced an opening date for its roughly 7,000-square-foot store until Wednesday, when it opened next to Banana Republic at Level 1, South.

The company has been pushing for a comeback following bankruptcy proceedings in 2020. The Mall of America opening follows closely on the opening of new concept storefronts in New York City and Boston.

The company also returned to Southdale Center in Edina late last year, but has not reopened stores on Grand Avenue in St. Paul or Rosedale Center, both of which closed in 2020.

J. Crew at the Mall of America is now open, but it won't hold an "official" opening party until Aug. 1, when it'll have games and food, as well as a free gift for Passport reward members.

"A major pattern shift will occur this weekend. Extreme heat and humidity are expected to build Sunday into next week," the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities says. "Highs in the mid to upper 90s and dew points in the 70s will send heat indices to dangerous levels Monday."

The National Weather Service has an experimental heat and health risk map that is under development, but it's public-facing and can be seen right here. When looking ahead to Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, you can see that the new product has Minnesota under the gun for major heat Sunday through Tuesday.

Sunday: Highs could reach the mid-90s in southern and western Minnesota.

Monday: Highs could soar into the upper 90s and low 100s in southern and central Minnesota. "All deterministic guidance now bring highs nearing 100 across southern and western MN, including the Twin Cities," the weather service says.

"Monday is expected to be the first dangerous day for heat of the season, but may only be one of many next week," the NWS added.

Tuesday: Temps will be dependent on how fast morning storms clear out.

The European model shows extreme heat and heat indices on Monday. In fact, it has a high in the Twin Cities reaching 99, with mid-70s dew points pushing the heat index (what it feels like outside) to nearly 110 degrees.

Beyond Monday, the European model keeps Minnesota cooking for the foreseeable future.

When you average out all of the models, the temps aren't as extreme. However, they're still averaging 90-plus degrees in the Twin Cities up to the Fourth of July.

The key will be thunderstorms next week. It might be hot enough during the day to cap the atmosphere, meaning the chance of overnight storms, including a threat of severe weather, could become a regular occurrence. Those storms and associated cloud cover could limit daytime high temperatures.

"At this range, this could mean a ring-of-fire scenario with multiple severe episodes as shortwaves lift northeast from the Plains around the ridge and/or hazardous heat for the Upper Midwest. In the absence of early day convection, we can expect to tally several 90+ degree days," the NWS says.

The collision happened around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, at County Road 24 and Willow Drive, with Gavin McLevis, of Ogilvie, Minnesota, critically injured and airlifted to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.

A GoFundMe has been launched on behalf of his family to help with his care. An update on Tuesday stated the family had been told "his brain injury is severe" and that "no predictions of what his recovery will look like can be made at this time."

"A tracheotomy and a feeding tube will need to be placed in the near future to avoid any complications," the update said. "Please continue to pray."

The collision is under investigation by the Medina Police Department and Minnesota State Patrol. No information has been provided as of Wednesday regarding the driver.

The 19,000-capacity Shakopee amphitheater, which opened to the public at the weekend, announced at 5:35 p.m. that doors would not open at 6 p.m. as scheduled, and then at 6 p.m. said that it would continue to delay doors "as we monitor the ongoing weather."

Just before 7 p.m., just over a half-hour before the concert was due to start, the venue confirmed show would not go ahead, and was being postponed to August 31.

"Due to ongoing inclement weather, we have made the difficult decision to postpone tonight’s Dave Matthews Band show," it said.

"The new show will be on August 31 at 7:30pm.

"All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date. Further details will be communicated to ticket holders via email."

Heavy rain smacked the Twin Cities metro on Tuesday afternoon and continued intermittently into the evening. As things stood at 7 p.m., it looked as though two more small waves of heavy rain were due in the Shakopee area at around 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Earlier in the day, the venue had said that while it was monitoring the weather, "our shows go on rain or shine," advising concert-goers to "dress accordingly."

The Dave Matthews Band performance was one of the few scheduled shows at the new amphitheater to have sold out.

Light rail service between Target Field and Mall of America will be suspended for seven weeks starting Monday, June 29.

Metro Transit says the closure is needed to upgrade signals and other equipment and will allow for safer and more efficient routing of trains, fewer delays and more schedule reliability.

Bus service is set to replace the trains along the Blue Line until the light rail reopens on Aug. 19 and Metro Transit is encouraging riders to plan extra time for trips until then.

The Green Line trains between Target Field and West Bank stations will also be replaced by bus service at times this summer.

Those trains are scheduled to be shut down July 1-26 and Aug. 16-19.

Even riding a bike, the construction may be hard to avoid: Metro Transit says detours are expected on some sections of the Hiawatha bike trail as the work progresses.

The new attraction in Luverne, which already has more nutcrackers than people, is along U.S. 75 next to longtime local business Those Blasted Things.

But visitors won't have a hard time finding the giant nutcracker. Standing 65-feet-tall, the patriotic fellow is easily seen from Interstate 90 near the South Dakota border.

While the statue is not yet formally recognized as the tallest nutcracker in the world, its nearly twice the height of the current record-holder in Neuhausen, Germany.

Local resident Katie Walgrave designed the statue, which took several years to complete and was privately funded by the nonprofit Just For Nuts. Once the electrical wiring is done, the nutcracker will have a working jaw and be able to crack nuts.

Luverne is home to the third-largest nutcracker collection in the world thanks to resident Betty Mann, who collected more than 6,000 nutcrackers and then donated her collection to the town's History Center.

The center already draws thousands of visitors annually, and residents hope the nutcracker will further boost the small town's tourism economy.

The community will celebrate the new statue at the annual Nutcracker Fest, which will be held July 17-18.

According to Mayor Patrick Baustian, a ribbon cutting ceremony is planned and the nutcracker will also be named during the festival.

Throughout the process, seven of the 215 cases in which Dr. Michael McGee served as medical examiner were ultimately identified as needing further review, and Ramsey County Attorney John Choi announced Tuesday that there will be no changes to convictions in six of them, though one is still unresolved.

Choi ordered the extensive case review after a federal appeals judge ruled in September 2021 that McGee's findings and testimony regarding Sjodin's cause of death was "unreliable, misleading and inaccurate.”

That testimony was cited by Alfonso Rodriguez Jr.’s defense team in a successful motion to vacate his death sentence in the University of North Dakota student's 2003 kidnapping and killing.

Three independent medical examiners were brought in from across the country to evaluate McGee's work in the seven convictions that were flagged, with each separately reviewing case files before meeting to discuss their analyses and reach their findings.

Also involved in the review were the Prosecutors' Center for Excellence, Great North Innocence Project, and the Minnesota Attorney General's Office.

“From the outset, we committed to a review that was thorough, transparent, and grounded in independent expertise to ensure a comprehensive review process, and just outcomes in every case,” Choi said in a statement.

Convictions analyzed and upheld after review:

• Michael French — Convicted in September 1996 of second-degree murder in the death of his 2-month-old daughter
• Said Moussa Gouleed — Convicted in July 2007 of second-degree murder in the death of his 6-week-old daughter.
• Kyle Kelbel — Convicted in July in 2001 of first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter.
• Kou Moua — Convicted in November 2002 of first-degree premeditated murder in the drive-by shooting of a rival gang member.
• Michael Sontoya — Convicted in May 2009 of first-degree murder while committing sexual assault.
• American Morris — Convicted in July 1998 of first-degree murder while committing sexual assault.

"Our determination that no change would occur in any of these six cases does not mean that Dr. McGee's work was flawless," Choi said during a Tuesday news conference. "While the criticisms were valid, they did not go to the aspects of the case that were key to determining the defendant's guilt."

McGee served as the chief medical examiner for Ramsey County from 1985 and 2019.

During his tenure, McGee provided testimony that contributed to Thomas Rhodes' murder conviction in the 1998 death of his wife, which was vacated in 2023 by the AG Office’s Conviction Review Unit.

Sara's Bakery owner Sara Higgins recently announced the business will be moving its storefront into Stillwater's Brines Market and Deli in mid-July.

Higgins said the move is bittersweet but she's ready for the next adventure and grateful for the new opportunity, writing on Facebook: "[It's] been a fun 7 years with the best tipsy pie crew and BEST customers."

The bakery shop's final day in the little yellow building at 823 4th St. S will be July 12. A moving celebration is planned for 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. the prior day.

In reply to Higgins' announcement, Brines Market and Deli said it's "incredibly excited" to have the bakery join the Brines family and honored to help carry the legacy forward.

"Looking forward to building the next chapter together and creating an even bigger destination for great food in the St. Croix Valley," the market wrote.

Hennepin Arts announced five new events on Tuesday, including a night with Indigo Girls. They'll set up shop at the downtown Minneapolis theater on Oct. 21, joined by former 4 Non Blondes singer Linda Perry.

The Grammy-winning duo of Emily Saliers and Amy Ray will be returning to the Twin Cities for the first time since a co-headlining bill with Melissa Etheridge at the 2025 Minnesota State Fair.

Additionally, Hennepin Arts announced a night with comedian and podcaster Ilana Glazer at the State Theatre on Sept. 16, a return engagement of "The Thorn" on Oct 2 and 3 at the Orpheum Theatre, Dan and Phil's "Hard Launch World Tour" on Oct. 2 at the State Theatre, and a Feb. 23 showcase of video game music with "Sonic Live in Concert," also at the State Theatre.

Tickets for Indigo Girls will go on sale at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 26. All of the other just-announced shows will go on sale at 10 a.m. that same day.

The incident happened last Thursday around 3:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Sixth Avenue Southwest in Austin, near the Mower County Fairgrounds, with Austin PD saying the dog fled west after biting the victim.

The dog has still not been found, with police issuing an appeal so it can contact its owners.

The department shared this description: "The dog is a gray pit bull with a white belly and white front paws, wearing a camouflage collar with 'Real Tree' printed on it and a silver dog bone shaped name tag attached."

Anyone with information is asked to call 507-355-0150 and select option two for administration.

Novarum Development Partners announced Monday that it has purchased the former Wells Fargo Home Mortgage headquarters in the Phillips West neighborhood off I-35W and near Abbott Northwestern Hospital.

The sale price of the roughly 25-acre property wasn't disclosed, and a public record of the acquisition hasn't been posted online yet.

Novarum is setting out to deliver a destination development, known as Iconic Plaza, costing between $100 million to $250 million and featuring about 1,000 units of housing.

"Our vision is to transform this campus into one of the largest mixed-use redevelopment projects in Minneapolis," Novarum's chief operating officer, Faraaz Yussuf, said during a news conference.

"A place where housing, health care, education, retail, restaurants, offices, hospitality, recreation, and community spaces come together in a walkable, sustainable environment.

"This is not simply the redevelopment of a building. It is the creation of a new destination. A place where people can live, work, learn, receive care, gather with family and friends, and build community, all within a single campus."

Novarum CEO Dean Dovolis, owner of DJR Architecture, said he expects construction to begin soon, though it could take as many as five years to complete.

Tonka Development Group, McGlynn Partners, George Group North, and Grizzly Construction have signed onto the project as its housing development partners.

Dr. Irfan Khan Sandozi has been tapped to handle the health care component, seeking to bring services to an underserved population.

Honeywell occupied the complex before Wells Fargo, which put it up for sale in 2023.

The meeting adjourned just before the council was set to consider a moratorium on data center developments and weigh a developer's proposal to build a 54,070-square-foot data center at 5890 Carmen Avenue, along the town's border with South St. Paul.

"Ridiculous," could be heard among the cries from residents after the council voted to recess the meeting and pick back up where they left off at 8 a.m. Friday morning.

A city attorney said the recess gives officials further time to analyze new information, including threatened litigation.

But the move heightened tensions with residents who say they've been blocked from giving public comment and the rescheduled meeting, which may be difficult to attend, is just another hurdle.

Similar tensions over data center developments are rising across Minnesota as communities navigate a patchwork of regulations and concerns about the facilities' impact on the environment, noise, electricity and water usage and more.

In May, Wright County became the first county in Minnesota to approve an emergency moratorium on all new data centers after two massive developments were proposed near Monticello.

The proposal in Inver Grove Heights is comparatively much smaller, but still carries legal complexities the city must consider.

According to FOX 9, the developer has threatened to sue if the council bases its decision on anything other than zoning laws when voting on the project.

It's also unclear whether or not the ban on data centers that the council is set to consider Friday would apply to the proposed project if adopted.

Dakota County Commissioner Joe Atkins wrote on Facebook that the council previously voted 3-2 to advance the moratorium, but a third and final reading is required before it takes effect.

"As a County Commissioner, I do not have a vote on this matter," he wrote. "But I am paying close attention because data center impacts, including electricity demand, generator noise, water use, roads and emergency response, do not neatly stop at city boundaries."

Hubbard Broadcasting is ending the station's afternoon Staci & Hutch show, which ran from 2–7 p.m. on weekdays and has been on the air since 2019.

The station has not made a public announcement, but informed staff via an internal memo obtained by Bring Me The News that the Greg Hutchinson's and Staci Matthews's contracts would not be renewed.

Hutchinson — who previously broadcast under the name Brad Steele at Mankato's Z99 — made a brief announcement on Facebook, stating, "Loss for words... saddened... will miss you all..."

Matthews joined KS95 in 2003 and hosted an afternoon drive-time show with Larry "Moon" Thompson for 16 years. Following Thompson's retirement in 2019, Hutchinson joined Matthews on the show.

"As you can imagine, this was an incredibly difficult decision," reads a memo sent to KS95 staff by Hubbard's vice president and market manager for Minnesota, Dan Seeman.

"Chris [Eagan] and I will now be focused on finding the next great afternoon drive show for KS95," the memo continues. "KS95 has always been a personality forward radio station and that will continue. We will update you on a short-term plan for afternoon drive in the next few days."

Hubbard Broadcasting did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the situation, and hasn't announced if the change has already been implemented. However, the station's online schedule does not list any Staci & Hutch shows for this week, and the show's page has been removed from the site. 

The city announced the closure Friday, and say it's expected to last "indefinitely."

The city did not elaborate on what specific concerns surrounding the tunnel, which runs beneath 5th Avenue West along West Superior Street in downtown Duluth.

The Duluth News Tribune is reporting it's the result of "unwanted behaviors" near Fifth Avenue West over a period of several months.

“The City of Duluth regrets any inconvenience this may cause pedestrians who use the system,” the announcement read. 

Elias Alexander Harper has been charged with first-degree assault causing great bodily harm to a peace officer, second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, obstructing the legal process or interfering with a peace officer, and attempting to disarm a peace officer, all felonies.

According to a criminal complaint, a probation officer called Itasca County dispatch to request that Harper be taken into custody for his failure to appear for his previously scheduled court hearings, and reported that the man had most recently been living at grandmother's house in Max, Minn.

When two deputies visited the home on May 4, the grandmother initially attempted to get Harper outside without their help, but she was unsuccessful. She then showed Deputy Michael Cowan inside, while Deputy Nicholas O’Toole positioned himself in the backyard in case Harper tried to flee.

Cowan reportedly encountered Harper in the kitchen, and knowing him to be "unpredictable with law enforcement," per the complaint, the deputy approached the man and grabbed his wrist.

Cowan told Harper to turn around, and he "initially complied with one arm but then pulled away and began actively resisting," allegedly "swinging his arms and pushing" Cowan as he attempted to secure Harper's other arm.

Both men went to the ground, as Cowan continued trying to gain control of Harper, who allegedly kept trying to resist and get.

During the struggle, Cowan felt a tug at his right hip, where his gun was in a holster.

Harper is seen on Cowan's body-worn camera footage, reaching his left arm towards Cowan’s right side, though his hand is out of frame.

The video shows Cowan reaching back to secure Harper's hand, and at that point, the gun is fired and Cowan is shot in the right thigh.

After he heard the gunshot, O’Toole ran into the house, where he found Harper underneath Cowan, whose gun was still in its holster.

Harper claimed that the gun "misfired," but Cowan disagreed.

An investigation after the fact determined that the holster's guard was still in place and the bottom of the holster was shot out, with the casing still in the gun since the slide was unable to eject it due to the guard.

O’Toole applied a tourniquet to Cowan's thigh, then rolled Cowan off Harper, who allegedly continued to resist and pull away.

The complaint says Harper indicated he was "Native mob" and told Cowan to shoot him several times.

O’Toole used his taser on Harper after he failed to comply with repeated orders to put his hands behind his back.

Harper was then placed under arrest and transferred to a squad car.

A relative who was in the home at the time of the incident called his parole officer to report that he had contact with law enforcement, telling the parole officer that Harper "became upset and tried fighting him and their grandmother" because he thought one of them had told the polkice about Harper's whereabouts.

The relative said Harper disarmed the deputy who tried to take him into custody and shot him in the leg.

An investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension found Harper's DNA on the grip of Cowan's gun.

Harper has previously been convicted of fifth-degree assault and has three additional fifth-degree assault charges pending. He has failed to appear twice on the pending
gross misdemeanor charges, per the complaint.

Dustin Colson Leaning, 33, of Boston, is among the 18 latest people to be honored by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission, which honors those in the U.S. and Canada who "enter extreme danger while saving or attempting to save the lives of others."

On June 30, 2025, Colson Leaning and his partner, Brittany Pashkow, had parked their van near the Dresbach rest area on Interstate 90 in Winona County when they saw a vehicle roll down the embankment into the river.  

The 37-year-old driver had reported "feeling faint" as he pulled over, before losing consciousness and crashing through the brush into the river, with his vehicle about 60 feet from shore when Leaning and Pashkow noticed it.

Per the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission:

"While his partner called 911, Colson Leaning entered the water and swam to the truck. The vehicle was floating upright, submerged to the door handles. Inside, he could see the semiconscious driver, who was bleeding from the face, while water poured into the cab.

"As the river current carried the pickup farther from shore, Colson Leaning attempted to open the front, passenger door but was unsuccessful. He then swam to the driver’s side and tried to open the driver’s door. When that effort failed, Colson Leaning moved to the rear, driver’s-side door. It also would not open. Bracing both feet against the truck, Colson Leaning grasped the rear door handle with both hands and pulled. The door opened as the pickup began to list and sink away from him.

"Water rushed into the cab and began forcing the door closed again. Colson Leaning wedged his shoulder and one foot between the door and the frame to keep it open. While holding the door open, he grasped the driver beneath an elbow. At the same time, the driver pushed himself outward, and Colson Leaning pulled him free from the vehicle

" The two men then swam to a nearby tree branch, where they floated and rested before continuing to a boat-ramp dock."

The rescued victim was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

First responders were dispatched to Stratford Wood Apartments after 9:30 p.m. Monday on a report of a man who had fallen from a balcony on the third floor, according to the Minnetonka Police Department.

The department says the man eventually was pronounced dead. It's unclear whether he died at the scene, at a hospital, or in transit.

The man's identity has not yet been released.

An investigation is ongoing and being treated as an accident, with no foul play is suspected.

"This incident created a prolonged emergency response as crews waited for investigators and the medical examiner to process the scene," Minnetonka PD says.

NOAA's Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has the entire western side of Minnesota in a marginal risk for severe storms. That's level 1 of 5 on the severe scale, meaning a handful of storms could produce low-end severe hazards.

There are showers and storms ongoing Tuesday morning in North Dakota, and those will reach western Minnesota by mid-to-late morning and continue pushing east during the afternoon. That will likely keep most locations cloudy, preventing too much instability from developing during the afternoon, thus limiting the severe threat.

However, the National Weather Service believes that storms that develop behind the morning/early afternoon showers and rumblers could have just enough juice to produce some hail and the occasional strong wind gust.

Next week looks hot and stormy

It looks like it'll be a stormy day in North Dakota on Sunday, with the threat shifting east into Minnesota possibly on Monday. While details are still being ironed out, the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities says high temperatures on Monday could soar into the mid-90s. Couple those temps with tropical dew points in the 70s, and heat indices could reach triple digits.

With an approaching cold front possible on Monday, storms could erupt in an unstable airmass. The NWS Twin Cities' forecast discussion on Monday afternoon was quite interesting.

"In particular, Monday would be [the] day to circle for a potential enhanced severe weather threat," the discussion reads. "We have a long ways to go, but the large scale features are at least pointing at Monday as being a day to pay close attention to as we work through the week."

And Monday might not be the only day with stormy skies.

"At this range, this could mean a ring of fire scenario with multiple severe episodes and/or hazardous heat for the Upper Midwest," the NWS Twin Cities' forecast discussion on Tuesday morning says.

"Regardless how the details eventually reveal themselves, it is safe to say the weather pattern of the past couple weeks is coming to an end."

Minneapolis Police Department says the shooting was reported just before 8:20 p.m. on the 1600 block of Girard Avenue North.

Officers arrived to find a man outside of a vehicle with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, and a woman inside the vehicle also with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

As both were brought to a hospital, police were informed of a man hiding in a shed on the 1500 block of Girard Avenue North who had also been shot. He was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

As of Tuesday morning, no arrests have been made, with an investigation ongoing to determine the link between the three injured parties.

It's the latest in a flurry of shootings in Minneapolis in recent days, including several over the weekend that left one person dead and at least six injured.

Shootings typically escalate across the Twin Cities in the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Cole Manning Wright, 23, of Vadnais Heights, is facing three gross misdemeanor weapons charges and one misdemeanor cannabis offense in connection with the June 16 incident.

According to the criminal complaint, a woman told police her two children, ages 11 and 13, had gone to Lakefront Park and were running a lemonade stand when a man approached the stand and began talking to them.

The woman said both children told her the man had attempted to give them a counterfeit $100 bill and then brought out a black satchel and showed them a handgun.

According to the charges, Wright allegedly handed the gun to the children and then took it back and left.

Charges state Wright told officers he was at the park to meet up with a girl. He said he'd bought some lemonade from the kids, but allegedly denied having a handgun on him or inside his vehicle.

Police saw a female passenger in the truck and noticed an opened package of marijuana in the front area of the vehicle as she exited.

Officers searched the truck and found a handgun inside a black bag, charges say.

Wright then allegedly said he was showing the children his truck when one of the kids found his bag with the gun. He was arrested at the scene.

This year's All Pints North will take place as scheduled on Aug. 1 at Duluth's Bayfront Festival Park, then the summertime beer event is expected to continue elsewhere.

Mystic Lake Amphitheater held its first concert Saturday, featuring an all-Minnesotan lineup, including Motion City Soundtrack, Morris Day and the Time, and Ber.

The venue's first week of shows continues with mgk (formerly Machine Gun Kelly) on Monday, Dave Matthews Band on Tuesday, and The Guess Who on Thursday.

A photo shared with FOX 9 shows the RV, a 2000 SAMC 39, crashed through a sound barrier wall before it came to a stop.

The Minnesota State Patrol said the incident happened around 9:20 a.m. on Highway 212 at County Road 101.

The driver, a 63-year-old Tacoma, Washington man, veered off of the highway and into the ditch, the patrol said. He was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The RV's two passengers, a 46-year-old man and 13-year-old boy, both from Tacoma, also sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.

U.S. District Judge Patrick Schlitz ruled that the Department of Justice's investigation into whether Walz and other officials obstructed or impeded Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol operations in Minnesota was unconstitutional, politically motivated, and completely unfounded, according to an order that was unsealed Monday.

Schlitz wrote that the "dominant purpose of the challenged subpoenas is to coerce Minnesota officials into assisting the federal government with enforcing civil immigration law and to harass and retaliate against them for failing to do so."

"Initiating a criminal investigation in order to harass political opponents or to coerce them into taking official action – particularly official action that the federal government cannot directly require those political opponents to take – is a blatantly unlawful and unethical use the grand-jury process," the judge wrote.

Subpoenas were also sent in January to the offices of Attorney General Keith Ellison, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty, St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her, and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.

One of country music's biggest stars currently, Langley, 27, set the record last month for the most wins in a year by a single artist at the CMA Awards.

She took home all seven awards she was nominated for, including female artist of the year. Her other wins included song of the year for "Choosin' Texas", which spent 10 non-consecutive weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100.

Langley also scored two major wins at last month's American Music Awards, winning best female country artist and best country song.

The crash involving a pedestrian was reported just before 10:45 p.m. Sunday on Division Street Northwest in Grant Valley Township, according to the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office.

The pedestrian, who's been identified as Floyd Cloud, of Bemidji, died at the scene despite life-saving efforts by emergency personnel.

The sheriff's office says the driver, a 56-year-old Bemidji man, remained on scene after the crash and fully cooperated with law enforcement.

An investigation is ongoing, but deputies and other first responders reported that there there were no signs of impairment from the driver.

The locally-owned Mexican restaurant chain is expanding again — this time in downtown Hopkins.

Lago Tacos recently got approval for a liquor license at 1106 Mainstreet, the former Thirty Bales space, where the restaurant now hopes to open as soon as possible.

Thirty Bales closed in May following a three-decade run, though it was known as Big 10 for many years.

"We've been looking since March for the right spot, and when we got the call on Hopkins, [...] it was too good to pass up," Lago Tacos owner Mike Slater said during a Hopkins City Council meeting on June 16.

The owner of the building at Mainstreet and 11th Avenue wanted something different than a late-night bar serving burgers and wings, according to Slater, who said Lago Tacos beat out four other businesses for the space.

Lago Tacos currently has locations in Excelsior, Plymouth and St. Louis Park, which replaced a longtime restaurant in the Uptown area of Minneapolis in 2025.

A fourth Lago Tacos location had a brief run in Eagan's Viking Lakes development before it was closed and backfilled by a new concept known as Copper & Rye.

Slater said Lago Tacos employs about 170 workers, including a culinary director who's moving from Plymouth to the new restaurant in Hopkins.

The Hibbing Police Department said a 9-year-old girl was airlifted with life-threatening injuries to a hospital in Duluth and a 4-year-old girl was hospitalized with minor injuries.

According to police, the girls were riding an ATV being driven by a man on the 11000 block of Carey Lake Road around 7 p.m. on June 18.

Police say the driver lost control of the ATV and struck an object, causing both young passengers to be ejected.

The driver did not require medical attention, and investigators determined that impairment was not a factor in the incident, according to police.

Three men were injured early Monday at a busy Northeast Minneapolis intersection near the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities campus.

The shooting happened just before 12:30 a.m. Monday on University Avenue Northeast between East Hennepin Avenue and First Avenue Northeast, with officers arriving to find a man with life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, though his current status isn't immediately clear.

Two other men arrived at Hennepin County Medical Center about 10 minutes after the shooting with wounds that aren't believed to be life-threatening.

It's the latest of four shootings just over 24 hours apart in Minneapolis.

A woman was shot in the head and hand Saturday night at a south Minneapolis park near the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

Police believe an altercation preceded the shooting at about 9:45 p.m. Saturday in Bossen Field Park.

The woman's condition isn't currently known, but she was reportedly conscious and speaking before she was transported to a hospital.

A man was killed and another person was injured in a shooting early Sunday in south Minneapolis.

Police believe that a group was in a parking lot on the 2100 block of Lyndale Avenue South when another group started shooting at them around 1:20 a.m. Sunday.

The man's name hasn't been released, nor has the condition of the other victim.

Less than an hour later, MPD responded to another shooting outside Cowboy Jack's in downtown Minneapolis, where an officer was punched as a chaotic scene unfolded.

Police were called just after 2:05 a.m. Sunday to 126 Fifth Street North and discovered a man with a gunshot wound that's not life-threatening.

A crowd gathered at the scene and "began to escalate" as police were investigating the shooting outside the bar, according to a news release.

An officer was punched while apparently attempting to break up an altercation amongst the crowd, though it didn't result in serious injuries, and one person was arrested for disorderly conduct.

No arrests have been reported in any of the weekend shootings.

At an event attended by former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Joe Biden, Obama called for unity across the country instead of “cynicism and division” 

“For millions of people in this country and around the world, the future feels uncertain, the ground unstable beneath our feet. And as algorithms keep feeding us a steady stream of distraction and outrage, as only the loudest, most extreme voices get attention, fanning our prejudices, appealing to our basest, most tribal instincts, it’s tempting to give in to cynicism and even despair, to stop trying,” he said. 

But Obama also stated that he has found reasons for hope, including in the recent actions of Twin Cities residents during Operation Metro Surge, the federal immigration crackdown during which two Minneapolis residents – Renee Good and Alex Pretti – were shot and killed by agents in January. 

"People aren't looking for perpetual anger and division, they are looking for fairness and common sense, and mutual respect that deep in our gut we want to find a way to turn towards each other again, not further away," he said.

“I believe this because I’ve seen it all across our country, in cities that have worked together to reclaim their streets from crime, in rural communities that have rebuilt their economy, in businesses that are finding new ways to make housing affordable, and those ordinary people in the Twin Cities who braved frigid temperatures, risked their own safety standing shoulder to shoulder to look out for their neighbors, and sometimes look out for strangers, because they knew that was the right thing to do. I've seen it," he continued.

As well as the killings of Pretti and Good – killings for which no charges have been filed as the Trump administration allegedly blocks access to evidence – Operation Metro Surge also saw thousands of Minnesota residents detained by ICE and Border Patrol agents, with children and U.S. citizens among them.  

Several studies have recently estimated the economic impact of the immigration crackdown in the hundreds of millions of dollars, as residents stayed home and businesses closed amid the federal surge.

The Obama Presidential Center officially opened to the public on Friday.

“Theoretically, in the next couple of weeks, I feel like we should have a trainer coming to us, medical staff come to us, letting us know that we’ll see them in practice," Reeve said, via the Pioneer Press. "And how long from there, it all depends on how the player responds to each of those things. You just can’t know those answers until you put them in it, but we are closer to them getting able to play in a 3-on-3, 4-on-4, 5-on-5 setting.”

Collier, who has finished as MVP runner-up in each of the last two seasons, had surgery on both of her ankles this offseason (one in January, one in late March). Her return has perhaps taken a bit longer than some initially anticipated, as it was estimated earlier this year that she would be back to on-court activities in early June.

Juhasz, the reigning EuroLeague MVP, has also seemingly had her recovery process linger past initial expectations. She's now over two months removed from a right mid-foot sprain suffered while playing in Europe.

Once Collier and Juhasz return to practice at some point in July, they'll still have to ramp up their activity level to get in game shape before making their 2026 debuts. Speculatively, it sounds like fans should err on the side of expecting both players to be out for at least another month.

"We are closer to the end of their recovery than the beginning," Reeve said.

The Lynx can afford to be patient. Remarkably, they lead the WNBA with a 13-4 record despite having two key injured players and losing virtually everyone outside of Collier, Kayla McBride, and Courtney Williams from last year's rotation.

No. 2 draft pick Olivia Miles, who has been sensational as a rookie point guard, is the big story from this season. The Lynx have also gotten outstanding play from free agent forward Natasha Howard, who has stepped up with Collier and Juhasz out. Minnesota native Nia Coffey has been an important offseason addition as well. It's been another great coaching job from Reeve, who doesn't have much in the way of proven production on her bench.

Once the Lynx are eventually at full strength, they're going to be even tougher to play against. Assuming Collier looks like herself when she returns, Minnesota will have a very real chance to win the WNBA title this year.
