Medina-based Polaris will shut down its Osceola, Wisconsin plant by the end of the year.
A Polaris spokesperson said last week it had made the “difficult decision to close the facility and will wind down operations over the next year.”
The closure will leave 200 employees out of work.
The plant manufactures engines and components for Indian Motorcycle vehicles. Last year, Polaris announced plans to sell Indian Motorcycle to Carolwood LP, a California-based private equity firm.
As part of the transaction, Polaris will separate Indian from its wider portfolio into a standalone business and then sell a majority stake in the business to the firm.
The transaction is expected in the first quarter of 2026, but the Star Tribune reports the closure of the Osceola plant is related to the sale.
The impending closure drew comment from Wisconsin Sen. Tammy Baldwin, who said: “We have seen this story in Wisconsin too many times – a private equity firm buys a company, hollows it out, and fires its workers, all to pad their profits. It’s simply wrong.”
